Fuel question...
Fuel question...
We've been picky about the fuel we put in our MINI, and have thus far only filled him up with BP Premium. I know it's kinda OCD, but does anyone know if there's a BP station anywhere near Fontana? Thanks!
There is a decent selection of gas stations in Robbinsville, which is about 25 miles from Fontana. Odds are that you are going to go past there for food at some time or another... also a large-ish grocery store and several restaurants.
PS: Shell is also a first-tier gas. I get Chevron every now and then, but it isn't as nice as the stuff from Shell.

There is a Texaco and a Citgo in Robbinsville off 129 which is the only town in the area of Fontana.
But if you drive down 129 till you reach 19 then make a right you will find a BP station just down the road.
So if you really need a BP, you'll find one about 45 minutes from Fontana Village.
Not bad when you consider that Robbinsville is about 30 minutes from Fontana.

I have run it all. Some states can only get 89 Oct like out west in Colorado and I just buy what I can where I need it. I have never had a problem with gas. They really recommend the mid grade as it seems to perform best. I run the 93 oct when I can but get less fuel milage with it for some reason but more hp. Just don't buy citgo or Chevaz gas! When on road trips, I carry oct boost with me to add to the fuel.

Where to get your fuel while at MOTD
Here is a website that will not only tell you where to find the cheapest gas, but it also breaks it down to the different grades.
Just type in your zip code and it will find it for you (MOTD is 28733).

Now that I have that out of the way, its time to fill you in on a dirty little secret...
I have a few family members that owned gas stations and even though they are diffrent brands they got their gas from the same tanker truck.
I have been told that the only real difference is that some companies put additives in their fuel prior to being tankered to the gas station.
So long story short, you can always bring your own additives and octane boosters.
But with all the stations in that area I don't think you'll really have any kind of problem.
Now for those with OCD and a need for top tier fuel then I think you'll need to check out this website on what TOP TIER fuel is and who carries it.
I think some of you will be surprised to find that your personal favorite may not be listed.

There's a gas station at the Crossroads of Time aka Deal's Gap. I can't remember what brand it is.
In the past, we've been asked not to use it because the owners would like to have the gas on hand for the bikers. So, please, do not use that station for fill-ups.
There's a gas station right outside the entrance to Fontana Village on Hellbender, but I shudder to think what those prices will be. I think it's a Texaco.

Yep... In '06 the Fontana Texaco prices were elevated at least $0.40 per gallon against what you could pay in Robbinsville. I take every opportunity to fill up at a good gas station when out there, but had to break down once and pay the extra $ for the convenience.
