R56 Dogs?
You can always get a poodle (any size) or other non-shedding dog.
Otherwise go for leather or leatherette seats - cloth are terribly hard to clean.
Our dogs travel everywhere with us in different cars and the Mini will be no exception. If you can handle this hair you can handle anything....

Of course there is always the grooming option. In warm weather we groom Brillo down to about a 1/4 haircut. Makes him about half this size!

my dog doesn't really shed that much so it's not that big of a deal for me. plus he doesn't move around much, just sits in the back seat. and i also ended up not being one of those people who have to keep their car absolutely spotless and showroom new all the time. i'm building up patina

tell me more about this harness. is this like a dog seatbelt?
Barkley, our beagle, doesn't really care to ride in the MINI. He is just short enough to not be able to see out while sitting. He gets all excited about going, but after a few minutes he lays down and acts depressed.
He stands on the center console of my Jeep GC and wags his tail the whole time.

I love my dog, but he will never be in my MINI. As far as dogs in cars go, I don't think they belong anywhere near the front seat as they can be more of a distraction than a cell phone. I see folks all the time with their dog sitting in their lap, head hanging out the drivers window, while they are driving. I trully think this should be a ticket-able offense.

my english bulldog, Bailey, loves to go for car rides:

I think that she compliments the mellow yellow color line quite nicely!
One of her favorite places to go is to Ralph Schomp MINI. She has a lot of friends there!

when she grows up she wants a MINI of her very own!

My dog rides along in the front passenger's seat. I just toss a blanket over the leather to avoid scratches and buckle him in with a regular dog harness. Luckily, he doesn't shed; thus, I can't help with that aspect of the discussion.
Yeah, the dog seatbelt harnesses are great. You can find them at PETCO, probably Petsmart also. There are also dog seats out there that are cool for small dogs, gives them a booster seat so they can look out, while safely restraining them.
I posted this the other day on one of the other threads:

I have a VERY hairy dog and got a custom dog mat from poochstyle that really did the trick. It has a dam between the back and the front seat area that kept the hair from getting down between the seats. Also covers the back of the seats minimizing the drool factor. I highly recommend. More pics in my gallery.

How big are your dogs? We have two cairn terriers (18-22 lbs) and they travel in their own two back seats; it helps tremendously.
