Drag strip fun

I went to the drag strip the other day for my first time and i ran into my buddy who has a 2006 civic si, well we decided to run. At first i thought i could take him, but the strip proved me wrong. We were even till about 3rd gear when he started to pull on me. He was maybe 2 car lengths ahead of me till the end of the quarter. Anyone else run into one of these cars with an interesting or similar story to tell? Just thought id share, oh and before i ran into him i did some calculating and everything as far as hp to weight/ ft lbs of tq to weight is concerned told me i would beat him, but i guess it turned out a bit different.

If you don't have the right tires for the track, your 60ft is going to be horrible. I think it should've been pretty even if both are stock.

Aerodynamics are in play. Its Brick vs Slick once you make it to 3rd gear.

You have an excuse to "Mod" your car then.

I was put up against the EP3 Civic SIs when I went to the track this year. I beat him pretty easily every time. I just had an intake and exhaust at that point too.

SI's are "Me Too" cars. Oh, you got a Honda SI? ME TOO! Being a ex-honda guy, i can't stand them anymore!

The 06 Si is 197HP @ 7800/140TQ @7000 RPM & about 2900 lbs with LSD.
The 03 MCS is 163HP@ 6000/ 155TQ @4000stock @ 2700 lbs.

+1 to the 15% SC Pulley, colder spark plug & CAI. Get a lighter and smaller diameter wheel 15"?? with better rubber as you are competing with LSD equipped Si which has a traction advantage. As others have suggested, practice & try different launch RPM with the most traction. Change gears at redline.

Then... get a re-match.

I personally witnessed an 06 Si put down 179 whp last weekend. If that helps at all. He was all stock.
