Replacing my MC Bonnet with an 'S'
Replacing my MC Bonnet with an 'S'
Well, I've been looking for a front bumper cover for my MC. I bought the car used, and other than the front bumper being a bit bruised, the car is in great shape. I found a nice bumper, and stumbled across a MCS bonnet, so I'm having them both refinished, to replace the current ones. The Hood was missing the scoop, but I bought one from a NAM member. It's the wrong color, but I'm having it CF'd finished. The slats on the front grills will also be CF'd to match the scoop.
I'm hoping it all turns out nice.

You can check out the pics in my gallery to see if you like the look...I had the "S" bonnet installed along with the Aero Kit while in the b-shop to fix a front end boo-boo. Added $425 plus $150 for the scoop frame and scoop and $50 for the bonnet pad to the total bill.
I had the scoop painted flat black to match the new grill work. At one point, I also had the shop add OEM bonnet stripes but the glossy black stripes did not match the flat black scoop and grill very well and so I had them pull them off.
I really liked the transformation it helped make on my MC. I'm considering some custom side stripes, at which point I'll probably declare victory on the exterior.

Yes I know. At first I didn't care as I really bought it for my daughter, and I got a GREAT deal on it. Really, the car does not have a ding on it other than the bumper, (and some scratches on the plastic behind the seats
), and at that it was not bad, but I new it was there. I'm a bit **** about my cars. I have since fallen in love with this little guy. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up getting an 'S' for myself.

When I wanted to do this, I was trying to come up with a way to make it functional. ie. air intake. but I stoped when i found out i couldn't aford it.

Can you tell me if you installed the air duct that goes behind the scoop under the hood? If not what did you do to cover the opening in the scoop? Or did you make the scoop functional?
Update on my MCS Bonnet, Scoop, and Bumper
Some before and after pics. I used the flash in my garage. The flash does not do justice, but here they are; More pics in my gallery.
Nice job...looks great.
Let me know if you make any progress along our earlier dialog, i.e., finding a way to route the scoop intake over to the CAI cavity. I'd love to make that mod.
Did you cap the opening or leave it open like mine? Can't quite see from your pics.

How to fabricate duct work for that hood...
Buy a roll of porch screen. After you design the shape of the duct in your mind, cut and form the screen into the duct shape you want- it's flexable and forgiving. The next thing is to buy some fiberglass cloth and resin with hardener. wrap the porch screen duct in resin-soaked fiberglass cloth. This is what makes it rigid and vacuum tight. If you have trouble applying the fiberglass so it will look nice, then just let the mistake dry, then cut it out with a Dremel tool and redo the section. Don't forget to make a water drain for rainy days. My car's engine is much happier on cool days- it's growlier and quicker to respond than on hot days. Every day is a hot day if you don't have a really good CAI and most are too restrictive, but the original is by far the worst. If you feed your engine using the scoop in the "S" hood, you'll probably have the best CAI yet. -Jeffy.
