Sport exhaust tips...

Sport exhaust tips... can someone explain this one to me?

I've got chrome tips ... what's different/better with these?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

It's an option on the configurator

The add on sport chrome tips are a little larger than stock as they go over the stock tips. The add in some a little detail to the tips as well. Its been a while since I've been to the configurator but if I remember right there was a decent picture of them there.

I've also heard that it changes the exhaust sound ever so slightly. I haven't been able to confirm this yet as I haven't listened to my MCSa with the chrome sport exhaust tips versus one that does not have them.

They aren't necessary by any means but I think they make the exhaust tips look sportier as they have a bigger opening. Does it help with performance? absolutely not.

If you need a picture let me know and I'll take one tomorrow evening if no else posts one before hand (its too dark now for me to take a decent picture, yes, I've heard of flash photography but it still wouldn't look the same)

Actually, here is a picture of mine from when I took delivery of my Mini, it isn't a close up of the tips but it gives you some idea of what they look like on a Mini.

Alright, I couldn't help myself, I went out and took a picture of my exhaust tips. It isn't the best picture but here they are.

Do they stick out further than the stock options? Are more people likley to get burned on them?

I think they might stick out a little bit further but I'm not 100% sure without being able to do a comparison.

people who are family you can let them know to be careful around the car after it has been driven.....people in parking lots shouldn't be that close to your car anyway hahahaha

Can anyone post a similarly sized closeup of the standard exhaust tips to facilitate a more direct comparison?

i have those sport tips also, and from what i can tell from your pictures that is what is on your coop already. Not much dif. from the originals other than the design on them.

Were you talking about my pictures? If you were, yes, those are the sport tips.

Mine were dealer installed but I can't imagine they would be that difficult to install. They probably just slide over the stock tips and get tightened down with some set screws.

Well, I don't rightly know if I have sports tips or not, but I have a beautiful red/rust colored ring right above my ankle from accidentally making contact with that freakin tip. Burns and stings like H!!!

I was just unloading groceries and somehow leaned into the tip! I'm standing there wondering why my leg was burning. What a dolt!

I think they are slightly larger than the stock ones. But you are right, from what I've heard there isn't a significant difference. When I placed my order I did not know that the stock tips were chrome. I ordered the sport tips to get chromed tips.

I did the same thing when i orderd my tips...thinking about the chrome. Then i read in the brochure/catalog that the "S" came stock w/chrome exhaust tips, so i talked to the dealer who told me the sport tips were really nice so i went with them. note: my dealer gave me my stock ones on delivery...it doesn't sound like they gave you your's!!(SimpsonGI) i'd call them on that...they're yours. you bought'em!

Do these make any difference in sound, as they claim, or is it just for looks?

How much are they from MINI direct? You might be able to get them later for cheaper. I have heard install is just a couple turns of an allen wrench. Outmotoring sells them: http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...aust_tips.html

Don't know if they stick out more but the JCW tips that came with my kit stick out more than the stock did. After the first time I burned my self on them, I'm much more careful . Are you considering the JCW Kit? If you are, you might want to just save your $$

putting new tips on

For those of you with these... My dad gave me his old tips and when I tried to replace my stock tips the new ones wouldn't fit. It seems there is a sleeve on the inside of the tip that the dealer did not give back to my dad when he put the JCW on.

Does anybody know if you can order these little sleeves or somehow pull the sleeves out of the stock tips (couldn't find a way myself)

I'm having the same problem. I just bought and received the JCW sport exhaust tips from outmotoring.com. I took the old tips off of my 2008 MCS with no problem but coouldn't install the JCW tips because their is a little bracket under the exhaust tube (where the allen wrench screw went behind) that prevents the JCW tips from slipping on. Either the old JCW tips don't fit the R56 or the sleeve that is inside the old tip is not included with the old one. There are no instructions. I called outmotoring.com amd Mossmini.com and no one had any idea about what to do. I also asked if they had exhaust sleeves that were supposed to go into the JCW tip and they said no they are jusy supposed to go right over the old exhaust tube. Can anyone help? Thanks
