2007 MCa Stall Problem

I've seen this posted on the previous generation pages for the MCSa, but I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem in their 2007 MCa.

We've owned our 2007 MCa for about three weeks and it has stalled four times.

The situation is always the same:
1) Does not occur in Sport mode
2) It's extremely hot/humid out (Miami)
3) It's when the car is first started: Pull out of the parking space, then the care stalls while braking to wait for the exit gate to open so we can start motoring.

We have always had premium gas and have tried switching gas companies to no avail.

Have others experienced this problem? Solutions? Thanks for the help.

I don't have the auto trans, but if I was you I would make a trip to the dealer and have them check it out.

Thanks for the feedback, we made an appointment with the dealership to bring it in next week. I will keep everyone updated with the verdict.

I just found your post. We have had our MINI for 2 weeks now (Automatic transmission) and it stalled out last night; however, when we tried to start it, it just kept stalling out. We finally started it by pressing down hard on the accelerator as it was started, then it seemed to be okay. The same exact situation as yours except that it wasn't real hot outside. Please let me know what your dealership says about it. Thank you.

My 1 week old MCSa stalled once when backing out of the garage first thing in the morning. It has not happened since.

Have the dealer check the fault codes in the computer. MY new 2007MCSa stalled and the computer said it had a bad fuel tank vent valve. Problems got much worse. Seems Mr. Roboto at the factory forgot to hook up the hose between the tank and vent valve. To make a long story short, we ended up with a crushed fuel tank as air couldn't get in as gas was sucked out.

Ouch, I hope they fixed that properly and put on a new gas tank for you.

My stalling problem is fixed - for now

My 07 Auto non-S got the same problem. Just got my car back from dealership 30 minutes ago. They said it was software problem so they updated it and everything should now be fine. The trip between dealership and my home was smooth, the rough idle and stalling were gone. Hope problem is completely solved. :impatient

MCa stall Problem

Hi All,
I just picked up my new 2007 MCSa on Friday 10/5/07. It's at the dealership right now. The mini will not idle and it stalls when first started. It also bucks at first. It seems ok once it gets warmed up. The dealership told me it was the oxygen sensor so I hope this fixes the problem. I'll keep you all posted. What a bummer this has been after waiting & tracking it.

Seems different dealers have different answers for the same stalling problem. Mine said software issue and yours said oxygen sensor.

Issue finally (hopefully) resolved

It took us three trips to the Mini dealer to finally get this fixed as they consistently would report that no problem was found. Finally, the third time when the valet at the dealer drove our Mini away it stalled out giving clear and convincing evidence that such a problem exists.

Like some people above, the dealership re-installed and updated the software. It has now been a week and a half since we got our car back and no stalling problems so far. The software re-install/update has seemingly also fixed our window-dip problem as well.

We had a hard time getting an answer as to how the software would cause this problem, does anybody have a clue?

Actually, the computer controls the amount of gas going to the engine, so if it short-changes the engine, I can see how you would stall out.

I've yet to experience stalling... is it possible that the gasoline is the culprit? Everyone using name-brand high octane fuel? Just a stab in the dark...

I picked up my 2007 MCS a little over two weeks ago. No problems until last Friday. I started the car and was idling in the parking lot for a minute or two before it stalled on me. I restarted and it stalled again. I restarted and stayed on the gas a bit and it did fine getting me home and didn't stall when I got home.

Then Sunday morning it happended again (i didn't drive it on Saturday), it stalled while I was idling in another parking lot looking for a space. This morning on my way into work it was sputtering on the highway for the first mile or so. When I kept the rpm up over 3K it did fine and by the time I got off the highway (about 10 miles) it was fine idling at the lights and at work again.

I have an appointment for Wednesday morning.

It is a standard BTW.
