It's obviously stop-motion, so I was wondering how they got the cars to stay halfway up the ramps while they shot the frame. But I guess since it's all stop-motion, they could have just put some glue on the axles to keep the wheels from rolling. It's not like the cars have to be able to roll.

I have a gingerbread MINI crashing into a gingerbread garage, but don't have the program to edit it (as in speed up f.p.s.). One of these days.

I've always wanted to do something like that. I mean, isn't just a camera sitting on a tripod taking a bunch of pictures and putting them all together to get the movie effect?

You don't even have to keep the camera on a tripod. For instance, if you keep the object somewhat-centered in the frame as you take the series of pictures, it will look like the viewer is moving along with the object.

I'm sure there's some inexpensive/freeware programs for doing this. I just found out that the "iMovie" application on my Mac will convert still images to movies. I think I'll do one tomorrow of my convertible top opening (kind of lame, I know - it's basically going to look like a jerky video recording of the top, but I want to start off with an object that I don't have to move manually between shots.)

A few years back Lego had a movie making kit. It had a camera that could be set up on a boom, and was designed for miniature work. It als came with a basic set. I always wanted to pick it up, but never got around to it. The kit also included the software.
