I one balled my exhaust at a local shop for $40. They did a great job and I am very pleased with the mod. Nice sound also. Now I am thinking about putting on a megan header with the test pipe (no cat). How loud will this be compaired to the one ball? I want good sound and performance, not something annoying...
resonators most of the time do not restrict exhaust flow and make it sound tons better, that is why all the civics running around without one sound like they are driving a giant can of bees, well that and cheap *** mufflers
i would get the megan header, get a highflow cat (because the concept of a catalytic converter is actually really neat and helps keep your car legal) and replace both or at least keep one of your resonators, i am pretty sure that if you remove both it will sound like poo
Going by what others have posted, it's pretty loud when you run without the catalytic converter. And since doing so doesn't really provide any power gain or other benefit, why not leave it in place and be friendly to the environment? Besides, it is a crime to remove it.
^ It's a crime everywhere...as it is a Federal law. But yea... it's going to be loud. I'm running an ALTA catless header and Magnaflow and it is very loud.
If your still under warrenty/service plan this may cause problems as it probably will throw a code/light and when the dealer see's the lack of a cat, etc they won't be inclined to honor the warrenty. A 4 cyl engine is pretty raspy and harsh unmuffled I'd stay with the cat.
I actually charted out my mpg before each mod. Turned on the cruise control for a couple miles and repeated at various speeds. The mods increased my mpg. BUT... With the louder exhaust , nice whine from the engine and more power... your foot gets a little heavier. That will hurt your mpg.

Get in line...Loud Pipes Saves Lives...
BTW, I'll let you know when loud is loud enough...
I got pulled over by the CHP once in my MGB for having a loud exhaust. Then, it was only a fixit ticket. Now I think it's a fine.
I don't get how laws are in place for cars being to loud....when I know DAMN well my MINI is loud but not as loud as a Harley....and I doubt they get tickets!!!!
But hell, I'm just a stupid kid so I'm probably all wrong.

I totally agree with you. Not that I want a bunch of cars running around with unmuffled exhausts, but I wish the authorities would crack down on the bikers. They obviously don't, or there wouldn't be so many obnoxious hogs on the road.
Everyone can hear you from here, anyway... Everytime you gun it, my neighbor looks over at MY driveway and yells "Cut that crap out!".
...sad to say, even Msfitoy was thoroughly drowned out at the "Pre Woodward Cruise" last evening...you guys think a bike with headers is bad, you should hear 1000hp blown big blocks with open headers...

Woodward Ave is nuts. I know exactly what you're talking about. I have relatives in Troy. There are some CRAZY loud muscle cars around there.
