I've heard alot about how much people love their XM (or Sirius) and am trying to decide if I want to take the plunge. My plan is one possibly two XM receivers for both the MINI and my wife's car. But I still haven't decided if its what I want. I like to get both sides of the story and haven't seen any negatives about the system.

Now it's possible that everybody who has it loves it and there's nothing that bothers them. But I don't believe it. I've seen the good, now share the bad.

Finally, if you don't own a satellite radio system, please withold your comments. I really don't care that you have 5 billion MP3s and refuse to pay for radio.

What equipment did you have to purchase? When I called Sirius they did not know what equipment was required becasue the MINI is prewired. I called my MINI service department and they also didn't know. Now this was about three weeks ago so maybe the information was not circulated to the dealers and Sirius yet.

Also, what did you pay for the equipment. Was it installed at your Mini dealer?

Anyway, no one seemed to know, so I gave up on the idea.

JoJo,
Give the guys at Classic Auto a call as they can provide you with part numbers and good prices on everything you'll need to get sat radio up and running in your car. I spoke with them last week and they mentioned that they have helped several people with this specific upgrade.

We installed XM in our SUV two months ago, awesome! Lucky me! now I'm in the MINI and the only thing I miss is the XM.

Have XM in the wife's cherokee, and will install XM in my MINI when it arrives.

The only negative I can think of is the delay when changing the channel. Honestly, I can't think of anything else negative to say about it. Lots of choices - as someone said, maybe more choices than anyone needs.

I guess the other downside is that you ARE paying for it every month. But that's a choice you make up front, so...

I used all kenwood components. It plugs into the cd changer plug into the boot. The only thing I don't like about it is I had to use an aftermarket antenna as the mini antenna will not plug into the kenwood sat reciever. The reason I used kenwood is I had it in my other car and swapped it to the mini,I used kenwood in my wife's because I like the quality and ease of install.

I installed my own Pioneer cd deck with XM Satellite. I absolutely love it. The only thing that does suck about it is how it cuts out for a second sometimes when you go under an overpass. Also now that summer's here, some of the parkways by me have sort of a canopy over them because of the trees and that blocks the signal. But I can live with that in exchange for (mostly) commercial free radio with stations I can actually listen to.

Oddly enough, I drove probably 1/4 mile or more into the Lincoln Tunnel before I lost my XM reception! maybe it was the tiles on the walls. Go figure.
