Are BMW and MINI nav disks the same?

I've been waiting a month for my nav disk to arrive and I kind of blew up at my dealer since nothing in my technology package actually works even though they've had three tries to fix it (for a total of four days off the road).

My dealer offered me a BMW 3 series nav disk instead of the Mini one that apparently hasn't even been ordered yet. Does anyone know if it will work? Is the BMW disk the same as the Mini's?

First, it may not have worked as you may have a non-DVD based system in your X3. The MK4 (DVD) is in the 05/06 MINI and older models have the MK3 (CD). My co-workers X3 can and has used my DVD (updated with camera POI's).

As for the new MINI, it is using the professional system (different bus). So the DVD you will get will be a "Professional" and not a "High" disk. BMW and MINI use the same systems but the High and Professional are like a PC and MAC. The two do not speak the same language.

So, your disk that you ordered will work in some BMW's based on the same system. BMW is moving to the new Professional system for all their cars.

Why not just stick in the DVD while still at the dealer and see if it works?

Thanks for the help,

The dealer is across town and the only time I can get there is at rush hour so it's an hour there and another hour back. I really don't want to make yet another trip to the dealer only to be dissapointed again.

If there is a chance it will work I will make the trip.

I picked up the BMW disk, and it works. It looks identical to the mini one so I think it is actually the same.

They are the same, just a different label. As I said before, there are only two different systems. Porfessional and High.

AND, why not tell them (NOT ask them) to FedEx the DVD to you. If it were me, they would be hand delivering that dvd to me at the locatiojn of MY choice.

I do sales for a living and when I have a customer that becomes rude I avoid helping them until they learn to treat me with respect.

BUT with my BMW/Mini dealer I didn't get any action until I became rude and threatening. (after four trips to the shop, a total of a week without my car, and a total of ten hours off work to accomodate their schedule)

Since rude and threatening seems to get results I will continue to be a surly b*stard, until the rest of my problems are solved.

Asking/DEMANING for what you PAID for with $30k is NOT in any way being "rude".

Rude would be what occured after they still didn't get it to me.
