Ok, I did it...

I blacked out NEMO's grille, and LOVE it.. WOOT! I'll post pics tonight (was hoping for better weather, but it's been raining like it's November up here in the northwest!)

How did you paint over the chrome? I painted the chrome grill ring on my old SVT with just a light sand and couldn't get it to stick the first time around. Ended up needing to strip everything down to the plastic, getting a good bonding primer and painting it a second time.

Hopefully you have better luck than I did with just this...

I got black out tape from pep boys.. It was 5.99 I believe... pretty cheap for a nice looking mod

Oh, the sunshade was at target when the Disney CARS movie was in theaters... I just HAD to have it.. maybe you can find one on Ebay

So when are you going to bring your MINI to a Puget Sound MINI Motoring Club event so we can see it live?

This was one of the first non-bolt-on MODs I did on my HO and I still think it's one of the best... the combination of chrome, satin black and orange can't be beat IMHO:

That grille looks HOT! Really nice tie in with your stripes! Dig it Dig it I would really like to know if you do the headlight rings, how long it took you and what product you used! I so want to do that.

I too have one of those shades, we got ours from a State Farm Rep who is in our club during MTTS! I love it! I will have to dig it out for Cecilia. But it matches SF so well.

You did a nice job with the tape. I may try that, I like the effect and if it's not right you can remove the tape and no harm done.

I think that's the best look on the HO -- especially with the black stripes you and ImagoX are sporting.

Wow, that is a nice combination with the chrome, orange, and black. Usually when I see the chrome grille on the hot orange, it just looks like too much. The combination with the black really does look sharp and may have actually swayed my opinion of hot orange! Kudos.

I hope soon! LOL.... I've been so incredibly busy, it's insane. Art director got fired where I work, so I'm covering that position as well.

Thanks everyone for your comments!!!
Yes, I took direction from ImagoX, cause I thought it looked SO good on his car!
(It was one of his posts that I got the idea!)

This is the type I used (although it comes in different widths)
http://www.amazon.com/Trimbrite-T900.../dp/B00029XD62

And like Silverbullit said, if you don't like it when you're finished, you can just remove the tape... only cost you 6 bucks.

All in all it took me about an hour. (Well, with the tape, I had to wait for an above 60 degree day to apply cause that's what the package said.. and that I also had time to do it so that was the hardest part here in the northwest LOL)

Looks great! The more blacked out grilles I see, the more I like the look. I think that may be one of my next mods.

ImagoX has some great ideas, and his "How To" posts are the greatest.

I have to say I like the blacked out grille look. I've had mine black for almost 2 years now.
It's just a personal preference thing, but I think the black ties in with the rest of the car better with a gloss black grille. On Nemo, mainly because the gloss stripes that come right to the grille.
And I'm also happy to see the AMVIV grille badge still on. Glad you like my artwork.

Whoa.. hold on a second everyone! On the new pictures, there is no AMVIV sticker.. it's only from the pics that were taken in Vegas...

Just kidding, yeah, it's still on there, same with the cracked glass that I need to get fixed

Okay, you guys have inspired me. Here's a (poor) photoshopped mock-up of what my build is going to look like. Volcano Red is the color.

We're talking about the grille badge that you had to have re-installed after the blackout, not the window sticker.

I did mine about a year ago using blackout tape from Pep Boys. (Click on gallery to see pics.)
Still looks brand new.

Wow- I'ver never been a huge chrome fan to start with, and the ease, low cost, and reversibility of this mod have been convinced to give this a try. I admit I'm lazy. . . . have not searched galleries yet, but does anyone have pictures of a CR (preferably with BBS) with blacked out grill?
