Cracking 17" Dunlops

I have the original 17" Dunlop runflats on my 05 MCS. They have about 30k on them and have maybe 1/2 the life left in them, if that. I had them stored for about 6 months while I had winter tires on the car.

When I pulled them out of storage, I noticed decent sized cracks in the tread. Anyone else seen this? Will the car's warranty take care of it or do I need to bite the bullet and buy new tires? If the car's warranty will not cover it, will Dunlop?

Thanks

I friend of mine, Bearslayer, saw that on his w/ 38K, right before the last Dragon. Had to get new shoes in a hurry.

Pirelli P6 i got for my legacywagon earlier this year is already showing
cracks. pirelli continues to depress me with their crappy tires.
i didn't have a choice as only the dealer had the tires that come on
the legacy's at the time and they wanted an arm and 2 legs.

... tirerack now carries the stock yok tires that come on the
legacy... but at $150 each oh well. im in the market to get a new set of wheels
anyway.

I think tire warranty is different than the car warranty. You can take it up with Dunlop. Seems too early to have cracks since you have not abused your tires. 30,000 miles is alot for some owners for runflats, most have used them up by 20-24K miles.

Dunlop will probably tell you that the tire has worn down by the 30K miles and just needs to be replaced. Cracks happen more for tires that are about 5 years old or older and a sign of aging. Sometimes also for tires in storage that are sitting for too long in one place.

Yes, my miles are literally almost all freeway miles so the tires are not worn as badly as my driving style would suggest.

Anyway, contact Dunlop directly, or take it to the Mini dealer and let them handle it, or take it to a Discount Tire shop and see what they can do?

Thanks for the replies.

I went in for my 15,000 visit to Mini and was informed that I had tire rot on my Dunlops... 15,000 miles..... I have an '05 but my commute is short (8mi/day) and still have a decent amount of tread. I was informed that I need to replace them asap! I am looking now for new tires so suggestions are encouraged. I was surprised that I ended up with the Dunlops as I requested NO Summer tires as I live in Maryland but they held up alright when I did drive it in the snow/slush.... I may stay with H/P Summer thoughts?
I will ask around about what Dunlop will do about such low mileage and cracked/rotten tires. The Service Mgr at Mini said their quality was a reason for moving away from them as OEM....

How big are all of these cracks that you speak of? I have been driving on my cracked tires for a month or so with no problems!

the cracks on my P6 are not bad yet, but there are visible cracks
right next to the treads that i know will grow deeper and wider in time.

im still trying to decide if i should just get a cheep wheelset with tires
for my legacy or just get the one tire replaced... hummm...
