SIRIUS Satellite Radio

I read somewhere, just can't remember where now, but someone mentioned that they had installed an aftermarket setup in their 07 MINI using the Sirius SIR-KEN1 receiver and a thing called a SoundGate Adapter.

Supposedly this connected to the CD Changer in the boot, and worked very similar to the way the factory setup does in the 02-06 MINIs.

Anyone know anything about this? Heard about it?

I installed the Starmate 4 in my '07. Simply plugged it into the AUX input. Works great.

Yeah, we've been down that road of using the plug and play units, and the results were less than stellar. Was very hard to find a radio station to use the FM modulator through, never got clear reception, so that type of solution is not an option for my wife.

I'm using line level out from the Starmate...stereo mini plug, plugs into the R56's line level AUX input, located under the center stack. No way would I put up with using the FM modulator. You are talking about the R56, no?

Where is there a good power source?

In our 2005 I used the Fuse 36(?) with one of those doublers. Will that work on the 2007?

Yes, you need the mini fuse doubler. I connected mine to the lighter fuse. The only problem with using the lighter circuit, is that the car needs to be running for it to have power....does not work in "acc" or "radio ready" mode.

I ended up using the smaller fuse doubler and went with fuse F32. This is a 7.5 amp rated fuse and it looks to be for a heated seat option which I don't have. This fuse has the same issue as the sig lighter fuse in that it will not power up until you hit the start button.

When I tried the sig lighter fuse I couldn't get the fuse box cover back on. The double stuck out too far.

Just took delivery of my new mini. I wanted to install Sirius radio. I see on here that everyone is using the AUX input. Where is that located in the car. And does anyone have any pics of it. Thanks.

My Mini hasnt' arrived but I believe it is either located under the radio or inside the secret compartment on the left side. I've also read posts where things are getting connected up to wiring in the boot.

What do you mean by getting connected up to wiring in the boot?

The aux connector is underneath the toggle switches, back on the left side a bit. Stick your hand in the tray area under the toggles, feel the rooftop there and you'll find it.

Tomorrow, I'm going to tap into the power cable that is under the passenger seat, which is designed for factory Sirius. This power should be switched to work in the "ACC" position. I'll post results in the morning.

I am trying to figure out the same thing! There is a lot of talk about connecting 'plug and play' units through the aux input underneath the centre console, but I am looking to connect a aftermarket sirius tuner into the prewired sirius harness that is controllable through the pre-existing factory stereo in the r56; I have the standard Radio Boost CD.

Has anyone had any experience do this using the Kenwood SIR-KEN1 or the Eclipse SIR-ECL1.

If this can be done, in I could save myself 400 bucks and a get monthly or yearly subscriptions instead of the lifetime subscription that would have to stay with my Mini.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Done this? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Periphery
