audio signal when I lock/unlock the door w/ remote?

I am reading the manual, and it says I can program my door to flash light and audio signal when I lock or unlock the door by pressing remote key button. (p.20) but when I play with my car's program, it doesn't show audio signal option, only flash light option. I am pretty unhappy about this. Is your 07 Cooper the same? or is there some other way to fix that?

Thanks for helping~

I believe you need the alarm installed for that to work.

Correct, you need the mysterious MINI alarm, which to date, is still not available as a retrofit from dealers....Nice that they at least gave us the non-functional red LED heartbeat indicator on the tach, however.

Mini decided it didn't want its owners upsetting the rest of the free world. They disconnected that option. The software change was made after the U.S. manuals were printed.

No word, yet, on whether it may change in the future. Hopefully not. Locking and unlocking honks have to be the most annoying thing in the motoring world.

I agree, but it would be nice if the heartbeat LED above the tach was functional.

Yes, it would. It would be nicer yet if the alarm came standard as it does in the U.K. Of course, we get things they don't.

Sheesh. A simple honking horn or beep is "the most annoying thing in the motoring world" to you, huh? Sure am glad I don't get annoyed that easily.

I would think it might be people who run red lights, or cut you off, or tailgate, or drive without insurance. You know, something like that.

Thanks for your comments~ If the signal isn't too loud, I am ok with it. Sometimes I walk away from my car but forget whether I lock it or not, an audio signal helps me from walking back to my car double checking it.

and yea, just saw the pdf from motoringfile.com, hopefully the alarm wouldn't be expensive.

I was upset when I recently found that this feature was not enabled. I love the audible tone on my wife's BMW.

I have a hard time training myself to look for the flash to make sure I locked up.

What you more than likely have not noticed is that in most cars these days that old fashioned annoying, "honk" has been replaced with a small unobtrusive, "beep" that can't even be heard from more than about 15 feet from the car.

I would think so since the alarm system is available from the factory now.
