Madison area event idea
Hello WI MINI's,
A friend of mine just did the Horribly Hilly Hundred, just west of Madison see PDF below, I asked him if he thought it would be a fun MINI drive, he thinks so. Have any of you been on the roads on this map?
It's a ready made event, maps are done, just meet in Blue Mound and Motor.
Would any of you like to test it, and or co-host an event there?

I personally have not been on these roads, but we had 3 MINIs from the Madison area come to Kopps last night for custard. I heard someone mention that there were good roads west of Madison and maybe these are them.
Just did the stage 1 and 2 last night.
I think the route is really fun, lots of curves and lots of hills.
Most of the curves can pass by 40s, some require even lower speed like 30s.
Other than that there are about 40% of the roads are either up or down hills, so that makes you to row your gear more
.
Overall I found it is a very nice route to feel your MINI. Last night I was driving a bit faster, since the curves takes my right foot, I hardly control myself not to speed thru the corners
.
Anyway I will recommand to driving this route in the future Madison MINI's event. (possible sometime next month) And I will followup in this thread when we decided which day it is.

Francis, thanks for the update, happy to hear it went so well, be sure and post your event on the CMMC part of NAM too. Is there someplace near by the drive could end at with FOOD? Also think about making it an afternoon event giving the Chicago crowd and others time to get there without getting up with the sun.
There's a Culver's in Spring Green
The Driftless Area of Wisconsin has a lot of great twisties
— the downside is that many are narrow with blind curves, driveways, farms, trucks & SUVs. I usually motor over there during Packer games & NASCAR races — when most of the riff-raff is glued to a bar stool!

With so much going on in the summer, what about making this the final event of the season for all of our Clubs? Have it mid-October before folks put their cars in storage - maybe October 13th or 20th? Just a thought... that way we can all plan ahead and get it on our calendars and still enjoy all of the things already on the summer calendars.

The Chicago Clubs last driving Event has been in late Oct for the last few years, The Rock Run, even had a few from WI. I would think a Sept Color might be fun. Even if you do it in Oct, if you post the dates ASAP, I think CMMC could plan the Rock Run for another Sun in Oct.

Another vote for the roads west of Madison -- some good driving areas between Lodi, Middleton/Madison, and Spring Green.
P.S. - Mauberly, looks like we're piloting twins.

Update: We have decided to do the Horribly Hilly Hundred (3H) on Oct 6 2007 as the fall color drive.
It probably will start at 2:00pm and finished around 4:30pm. After that we will have some drinks or early dinner in a restaurant.
And we will be prepared for the MINIs comming from Milwaukee or Chicago
More detail will be provided later (In Sept.). Stay tuned

Camping? does that mean theres a Motel 6 near by? LOL I can't camp, because EVERY time I have ever gone camping, it RAINS! Every time!
I've been driving and riding (motorcycle)on those roads for 35 years. It's beautiful country although not the most colorful during fall folliage. I think you will enjoy the drive very much but you should be aware that deer and turkeys are plentiful in that area and in most places the woods is close to the road so not much warning is given as far as wildlife. Deer can be present at anytime during day or night. Since I've almost been clipped 3 or 4 times in the last month, I should mention that the locals, many of them shortly removed from the City, tend to deviate from their own lane quite often. It can be a real suprise when you top a hill or round a corner.
I mention all this because much of it is not an area I feel comfortable going fast in anymore. Age may have a little to do with it.
