I've been driving and riding (motorcycle)on those roads for 35 years. It's beautiful country although not the most colorful during fall folliage. I think you will enjoy the drive very much but you should be aware that deer and turkeys are plentiful in that area and in most places the woods is close to the road so not much warning is given as far as wildlife. Deer can be present at anytime during day or night. Since I've almost been clipped 3 or 4 times in the last month, I should mention that the locals, many of them shortly removed from the City, tend to deviate from their own lane quite often. It can be a real suprise when you top a hill or round a corner.
I mention all this because much of it is not an area I feel comfortable going fast in anymore. Age may have a little to do with it.

I just noticed this thread today and really don't want to horn in at this late date, but if some of you are planning on being in the area for a few days I could list some other roads that you might also like to try. Again, I don't want to step on toes.

I'd love to see that list, I'm in the Madison area for biz a few times a month and would love to hit some great roads that you have enjoyed. Maybe you could start a new thread of Great Madison area roads and other could also list roads too. I'm headed to La Crosse next week, any tips up there?
I'll post 2 maps. Go here, click on a map - and then "all sizes" to choose a size to download if you wish:

This first map is a wider view of you horrible hilly map area with a couple routes penned in. HH is a nice road, starts out from K on high ground good visiblility curves, then drops to tighter corners in the valley. On cty H, I circled a nice corner that you think goes in a full circle (fun) and also Hyde Mill is highlighted, a good photo op. From there you have 2 ways to eventually reach ZZ, which is high ground overlooking Gov. Dodge St. Park. Then comes the best of the route which is Hy 130 which takes off from Hy23 and heads toward LoneRock. This is an excellent stretch of twisties.

This is the official WI map. Many many many nice roads between Richland Center and Lacrosse. As a long route to Lacrosse I would highly recommend Hy 33. from Baraboo all the way to Lacrosse. Near Ontario (Wildcat Mtn. Park) is a stretch you should not miss. It's the closest thing to the Dragon that I have been on in the Midwest. It's a short stretch maybe 2-3 miles but tight corners and a blast to drive. There is a great view from the top. South of 33 between Ontario and Lacrosse you'll find wonderful backroads, I don't think there are any bad ones. Very picturesque - Amish country. One thing to remember, some of that area has flooded in these last rounds of rain, so roads maybe hazardous.
I drone on, but just one more. Hy 60 between Spring Green and Sauk City. Lots of curves, great scenery from rocky bluffs to river backwaters.

We are looking forward driving the hills with anyone who wishes to join us.
fancisk will be leading the group and depending on turnout I may be leading a second group on the drive. We attempt to accommodate the driving styles of the people who show up for the events, keep it safe, and respect the laws and residents of the areas we travel through (human & wildlife).
If you want any information on area hotels, restaurants, camp grounds, extra sights to see, additional drives in the southern WI area, etc... feel free to contact me.

How is this map different from the PDF in the very 1st post?

I'm not sure I said it was. The first does expand a bit on that area and I took the trouble to highlight a very nice route that isn't included in your planned "run". This route may be enjoyed by some at a future date.
The second was an attempt to be helpful since you said you were going to be in the Lacrosse area. You asked for it, I gave it. If you don't want to read it or whatever that's fine. Maybe some one else will find it helpful.

Dear Pendergast, I didn't want to offend you with the question. I just wanted to know if there was a major reason to change the route that was already done and ready to print.
I have designed more than a few routes and know the time/miles it takes to do it right for all to enjoy the 1st time they drive it.
This also highlights the issues with NAM and the design by committee that many events suffer from. I thought Francis was the "leader" of this event.
At this point I'll just plan on showing up and driving whatever route someone prints out.
Best Wishes, CM

Update: We have decided to do the Horribly Hilly Hundred (3H) on Oct 6 2007 as the fall color drive.
It probably will start at 2:00pm and finished around 4:30pm. After that we will have some drinks or early dinner in a restaurant.
And we will be prepared for the MINIs comming from Milwaukee or Chicago
More detail will be provided later (In Sept.). Stay tuned

CM -I admit your post irritated me in that I spent 20 minutes finding the maps, took pics of them, wrestled with software to highlight the route (I'm not a graphic artist by any means) uploaded to a server and then posted on Nam. After that I hoped you would at least read the post but it didn't seem that you had. I therefore apologize for my irritability and hope we are cool.
I wish you all a great and safe "run" and a great stay in my beautiful state!

It's all good Pendergast, maybe some day we can share a beer after running some miles together, without all those other people. LOL
I also look forward to seeing Iowa MINI's there too.

That would be good!
Hmmm....the route map provided in Post #1 suggests that the starting point is in Blue Mounds...
Clarification would be appreciated. We MINIs coming over from IA want to make sure we're in the right place at the right time. Maybe the rendezvous in Blue Mounds is at a slightly later time?
Thanks.

For those people who are coming from Iowa, I think we can make a stop in Blue Mound at 2:20 (I bet most of you are driving from 18 - 151).
I try to figure out the meeting places tonight, all detail will be available later.
