Suspension Adj. camber plates and rattling front end
Adj. camber plates and rattling front end
I have an 06 MCS on which i just installed a set of front adjustable camber plate. I understand adding the camber plates will increase the NVH on my car but I'm getting is rattling sound coming from the passenger side. It's not the spring hitting the wheel well but sounds like it is coming from under the dash. Does anyone have any ideas what is rattling and/or how to fix it. The rattling is really starting bug me.:impatient
TIA

What type of camber plates. the early H-Sport had issues but the new models are fine.
I just tightened the nut on top of one of my strut rods (actually tightened both, and put in a drop or 2 of blue lock-tite for good measure) that did the trick for me.... results may vary.
...I also discovered the shop that did my corner balance didn't tighten the adjustment on my coil overs all the way #*&%... which explained the other noise I was getting.

Are you getting the rattles over small bumps and seams in the road? I'd suspect that one of the top nuts on the damper shafts isn't quite tight.
You want to be sure they're tight as having them at all loose will be really hard on the camber plates.
If the camber plate and damper shaft design allow it (many do), one of the best ways to tighten the nut is once they are already installed on the car and the car is sitting on the ground. That helps keep the damper shaft from turning.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have a set of SPC camber plates. The rattling usually comes on when I'm at idle and when I have the A/C on. The noise doesn't seem to be coming from the strut area but more like underneath the dash on the passenger side.
sorry its sucha noob question, what does NVH mean ?
i've got adj camber plates and my car makes that noise too like a spring hitting something. what is it ?

Depending on what year your car is, some cars and I'm not 100% sure (05-06) have rib in the wheelwell. When you install camber plates the springs are at an angle (ie -2.0 camber) and the springs end up hitting these ribs. I'm not certain that this will create the noise that you mentioned, but this could be a potential cause.
