Couple Hi-Fi stereo upgrade questions? Also, subwoofer?

Does anyone know if there are any external connections on the Hifi stereo upgade? A Preamp output for example?

Secondly, I saw last year in the old '06 model MCS, many folks were installing a Clarion powered subwoofer under the drivers and/or passenger seat. Does that clarion box fit under the seats of the new 07?

I know they had to remove some foam from under the seat to fit it....

There are no pre-outs on either system.

There is a very good chance anything that would fit under the seat of an 06 will fit under the seat of an 07 - unless you have DSC - which is very possibly the source of a mysterious black box that sometimes shows up under the passenger seat.

Thanks. I am getting DSC.

So familiar(sorry for all the questions my brother!),
You installed the kenwood sub, AND left the black box as well?

The fact there is no Preamps out just KILLS me!! This little car is engineered to deth, amazing all the cool features and stuff on it. But why not a simple little pre-amp out on the amp (whereever it is)? Would cost about 20 cents more per car from the OEM manufacturer. Every amp already has the pre-amp signal in it, all that needed is the RCA connector on the box.

This drives me nuts and it's not just mini, its every car company. Just dumb.

Yeah, I wanted to add a subwoofer to my existing system and the sterio guy said I had to replace the whole system (wires, speakers, deck) to achieve this. sucks.

Just tap off the back speakers wires to provide an input for your bazooka. If the bazooka only has line level (RCA) inputs you will need a high to low converter. Run power and ground wires to the bazooka and you're set.

Yes Tattoo, you can do it and it's very easy.

BUT, it would be ALLOT easier, and better sound quality with better control from head unit, if thye simply added Pre amp outputs to ALL car stereo's.

sure that would be great, but it'd even be nice if we could change the headunit.

I've never heard of a stock stereo that had rca outputs.

birdman, no worries about the questions I have had alot of people on these boards help me and I am glad to be the one helping. I installed the Kenwood, but removed the black box cover and styrofoam to give the sub more air to push under there. Technically the sub is designed for low airspace, but I also have some plans for the space that we will see coming along. I do have to put the cover back on for my trip to the dealer. I accidentally pulled my airbag cable out and it tripped a passenger restraint system failure. anyone know if that is an OBII code and if it could be cleared at say autozone?

Gotcha. So I guess there is a little silver box bolted down(I see in your pucture), then a larger "black box cover" over it? And you left the small silver box, and only removed the carpet and styrofoam.

I think I need to see it when I get it!! Where is my mini?

That is basically correct but the silver box isnt a box per se. it is, i believe molded into the frame work.
