Radio Service Mode

In the speaker upgrade thread, oPossom posted how to get the radio into service mode.

Being a notorious fiddler, I couldn't help but see what's "in there". The answer is: Not a lot. Here's what I found:

You'll first get a screen listing the serial number of your unit. To the right, you'll see a "-" and "+" which will allow you to scroll through the other screens (noted below).
  • A screen listing model, software version, etc... (H8S 02-2007 73.51.10 etc...)
  • "REV" and "Index", with no other info or options
  • GAL (basically another speed/volume setting) Mine was set at 3, and you can adjust it from 1-6. Lots of info on GAL on other Bimmer forums
  • ANT AUTO (antenna?) nothing to change...
  • F/Q and a series of numbers that correspond to the currently tuned station's frequency. Nothing to change
  • DSP/Volume. DSP is (I think) Digital Signal Processing, which doesn't do anything for us. You can change the TP volume, which is traffic monitoring over the radio. Don't know if the U.S. has this feature, but Europe does. My radio is set to Europe (more on that in a minute).
  • Display CHK. Selection numbers 1-7 let you check pixels, but also will dim/brighten the display. Be careful or you'll have fun trying to get your display to show again! Don't ask me how I know that!
  • Area. Lets you change the regional setting for your Mini. As noted above, mine's set to Europe. I move back to the States in July, so this will be handy as I can change it to the U.S. Options are ECE (Europe), USA, JPN, OCE (Oceana).
  • Key Memory. Options are on and off. I'm guessing this will turn off the "memory" retained for each key? I wasn't brave enough to mess with it.
  • Line Tool/RDS/OS option. Should pertain to additional info stations broadcast. Mine was set to Line, so I left it there.

Some of these features are available on the nav screen. (Menu button and settings) The others can be accessed using te audio system owners manual as a guide.
