JCW CAI performance

Is there any noticable/significant performance boost (and associated sound) with the JCW CAI below 4500 rpm (per JCW specs)???

noticable, only slightly. significant, no... if you want to get the most out of the JCW intake replace the filter with a foam version (althought the stock paper version isn't bad, just expensive) and remove the flap (will add a bit of noise "sooner")... just don't expect big changes...

It looks great under the bonnet and if you perform a flapectomy, it sound good and there is a bit of a push in performance in the lower rpms. IMO

I don't get the flap logic - to me it should be the inverse. It should be open and as you you accelerate it should close. As you gain speed the primary source of air should build and w/ the flap closed the air box should pressurize.

The open back to me comes in to play at low rpm or speed giving another source of air (short path to the filter/throttle body) so it doesn't have to suck it thru a straw so to speak.

Don't forget to remove the lower plug... Then just let the flap do it's thing...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm having a SS exhaust install in a couple weeks and was looking at doing the CAI at the same time...

I did this on my GP (replaced the stock filter with a K&N filter and removed the flap) and immediately noticed a difference in low end torque. The "pull" is much stronger across the entire power band. The increase in sound is great too!

Had mine installed today, picking up the car tomorrow. I'm ready to feel the difference.

Nice move- remove the main bottlenecks. Just curious, but which exhaust are you going with?

Is there any problem with just jamming the flap, so it stays open all the time? This would prevent the removal of the flap and it could be turned back to stock JCW at a seconds notice.

My JCW CAI's flap has a small metal lever that slides into a loop in the center of the flap. With the CAI in place in the car just put your hand into the opening where the flap is, find the bottom edge of the flap and push to open the flap and feel around for where the metal arm goes into the flap. You can paint a mental picture of how it connects to the flap by feeling with your fingers. It is simple to just pull the arm out of the loop on the flap. The flap is spring loaded to stay open and the metal lever or arm just hangs in it's original position. Once you have done it, it only takes 10 seconds to switch back and forth.
