What kind of Magazine is Metropolis? Went to Barnes and Noble today and they don't carry it - never heard of it, etc. Was this a newstand copy that had the ad or do you get it in the mail? Help!!! I love this ad... Any ideas where I might find it?
Thanks,
Donna

Donna and Metropolis mag
I was just going to post the same thing: that my B&N said they don't carry it. So, I called Borders and they do carry it but still have June 2005 issue on the stands. They told me to call back next Tuesday at the earliest to reserve a copy of July, 2005. It's an architectural magazine so if you know an architect, he/she probably gets it free at work. Either that or scope one out in the waiting room of an architect's office. I don't think I could pull it off. Has anyone ever found an MC ad in a mag in a doctor's/dentist's office? Or some other office? I might have a crisis of conscience.
Anyway, I hope the Metropolis mag has the ad on the newstands. I checked the mag's website and it's $61 for a year's subscription -- a bit too much just to hope for a Mini Cooper ad to appear, IMO!
Peace,
Susan (all a'twitter over new MC ads)

Dr Pepper campaign
A friend of mine in Maryland said she bought some Dr. Pepper at the grocery store and there's a contest. The grand prize under the cap is a Mini Cooper. I checked several local stores and either we're chopped liver or just haven't gotten new Dr. Pepper shipments.
Anyone seen any clever Dr. Pepper/MC ads? I'm thinking we'll find more cleverness abounding!
Still 'a'twitter!

Susan

I came to tell about the ad in The New Yorker and see that Susan beat me to it. I'll post a scan soon.
Metropolis is an architecture/design magazine. I subscribe, but I'm certain the ad will be in the newsstand edition since it's printed on the pages, not an insert.
I have a 2-liter bottle of Dr Pepper with the MINI contest but still need to find a 12-pack box.
And the MINI MotoringGear Spring/Summer 2005 catalog is out.

And now you beat me.....
James and all:
The new Mini gear catalog is just as cute as ever. It's a small booklet. Inside the front cover, there is a list of symbols used: kids, women, men, elephants!
Oh, our best buds at Crispy Bogan's are at it again!
Peace,
Susan

...and I hit "enter" too soon....
....anyway, the July '05 Vanity Fair ad on p. 66 is not an insert. It's vertical and shows a napkin, a 3 x 5 inch note card, a dry erase board with an eraser and markers in the well and.......ta da.....a Y/W Mini poking out of the ad.
Oh, Anne was right.......June brought us some new ads!!

The ad agency that creates all these great ads - Crispin Porter + Bogusky - was nominated for several advertising awards (called the "Kelley Awards")
Here are some links:
Big to Small -

Convertible ad laid over other ads (horse/jet ski):

Roof/Wheel generator:

And it looks like this one actually won the grand prize in 2003:

And finally, here's the story where I got all this stuff:

Thanx Mini-Love!!
Thanx for posting these websites! It was so much fun to look up the info. And obviously, someone from CPB tripped going up the steps to receive his/her/(their?) award for the 2003 ad. I loved the video with Andrew Keller saying "Killed" after so many ads. Did he mean "killed" as far as putting the ad out, or "killed" as in entering the ad in the competition? I'm thinking the latter as it shows how many Mini ads there are. Maybe?
Now, I must check James's "Hunter's Guide" to see where that 2003 winning ad came from. Anyone have it?
Peace,
Susan

Cool find...
Since the advertising finds have been a little slow lately, I thought I would share this interesting poster/brochure that I got off Ebay recently. It's a small (about 6"x 6") sqaure brochure that opens up vertically to a section that says "Drive it. Feel it. Live it. Dress it." in different sections with pictures. Then it unfolds again to a small poster with an EB/W MINI. On the back, the small print says "Printed in Germany 2000" and in larger print says "Coming to America in 2002".
I thought it was kind of cool. It's not something I have seen before. Now I am wondering if anyone else has seen this....

Gas Station Signs
James, I just looked back at your March post about gas station signs in your area? Did you get them?
I filled up at a Conoco station here in Oklahoma City the other day and noticed MC ads above the pumps. They say "Word of the Day" and then have a "sniglet." On the right side is a photo of a Mini. I stole two of them; the one that was left was a duplicate. The other 7 pumps either never had the signs or others had stolen them before I came along. Shucks! I've been using Shell. Anyway, the two I got were 9 and 10 on one and 11 and 12 on the other. That means there are 1-8! And maybe more than 12! I'm tempted to drive around town looking for more signs! They aren't metal but heavily-laminated paper and quite easy to remove from the metal holder, which then had a Conoco (which, IMO, means "Con Okies with high gas prices!) sign under it.
Did anyone else "collect" these signs?
Peace,
Susan

No, the gas station never called me to pick up the signs. I'm still hopeful to get something through my contacts.
NEW AD!
I got my August/September 2005 issue of Metropolis magazine today. There is a MINI ad spread over 31 pages of the magazine! The ad begins on page 12 with the line: OVER 24 MILLION COMBINATIONS AND COUNTING. WHAT WILL MAKE YOURS UNIQUE? and a tiny white MINI next to the page number. Then randomly throughout the magazine there are different MINIs next to the page numbers at the bottom of the pages. The ad ends on page 166 with a small MINI logo and an all-white MINI.
First Page (page 12):
Last Page (page 166):
Metropolis. August/Spetember 2005. (pages 12, 16, 18, 22, 24, 28, 34, 38, 50, 54, 56, 60, 64, 68, 72, 74, 82, 92, 96, 100, 144, 147, 148, 149, 151, 155, 157, 159, 161, 165, 166)
