Abandoned building photos
I took this picture on one of the more dilapidated parts of my campus, I am pretty sure this used to be the power plant for this campus (not the main campus, a smaller one near by). The smoke stacks have since been torn down.

Shot with:
Olympus E500 using the kit 14-45, f3.5-5.6 lens that comes with the camera. As a side note one of the things I kinda like about the 4/3 sensor in the Oly cameras is that it gives a slightly squarer image then other camera's, which means I can shoot a taller object with having to rotate the camera and changing the overall feel of the picture.

Wow, some good stuff here... Andy, I love those shots you posted, especially the classroom.
Some Guy - I know where that is!
I've been in a bunch of buildings on that campus. Definitely some interesting stuff to see. I stayed away from that power plant, though, it looked like it was ready to fall down. Or maybe it was crumbling stacks that freaked me out. NIce shot!
Anyway here are a bunch more photos. Pretty much everything I've shot in the last year has been with a Nikon D80 and a Tokina 12-24 wide angle lens.
1. Sunrise is my favorite time to shoot...

2. Old TB hospital

3. Power station probably about to be torn down.
I wish I had more contrast in this one, but I'm too cheap to buy Photoshop and too clueless to download a crack for it.

4.

5. Old train tunnel with CRAZY ice formations

6. Rooftop basketball court on an abandoned school

7. Pathology laboratory

8. Old institutional-style sinks. Unfortunately these are usually one of the first things to get smashed once local kids get into a place.

9. An old theater... looks like this one is about to come down, too.

10. An old Navy warehouse

Great pics!! Some of these buildings should be on a preservation list. That power station in magnificent, and once it's gone - history is lost forever!
PS you should alert some local architects and preservationists.

I've gotta ask. How do you not get busted for trespassing? Or have you been and just smooth talked your way out of it? I was out shooting pictures at UCONN Depot and was asked for my ID and my where I lived on campus. All I could think to myself was, "really?!?, do I look that suspicious?".
I'm looking at my picture up their and it looks like their is a slight bit of distortion... anybody else seeing that?
EDIT: Added a bit of contrast to the photo you wanted it on. Wasnt sure what it looked like in person so I just guessed and made it look nice to me. It's hard to do a whole lot though because the bottom left corner gets very dark very fast if you try to start upping the contrast.

Thanks!
That's awesome. That place was really hard to shoot with all of the sunlight streaming in through the holes in the roof.
I've never been busted (I've run a few times, though). I don't know, I think it's sort of a sixth sense you can develop for what's sketchy and what's not, and when's the best time to make a break for something, and when you should just stay in the car and not push your luck.
sikamini, unfortunately preservation lists and activism are usually totally useless against the relentless tide of demolition. We have no passion for history in this country, and people always want the local "eyesore" torn down ASAP.

I feel your pain! At least you're recording some of it.
It just ticks me off to see old buildings torn down and next year some # @$$ puts up Victorian/revival/classical/ piece of $#!^ to enhance "preserve" the historical character of a neighborhood/distict/town....
Most people just don't get it, something that looks old or is made in a style is just deluding oneself and detracts from the significance of the original location. The history that is lost will never return and I'm saddened by it's loss. You might be surprised by the reception you get if you e-mail some of your photos to the local American Institute of Architects - I hope! If I was in your area at least I would.

This is my MINI in front of "the Aud" in Buffalo. Former home of the Buffalo Sabres. Hopefully I will get back some morning with a real camera (as opposed to my blackberry) when the sun is behind the shot.
If anyone is wondering why the Aud was not simply imploded, it is because there is an elevated highway about 100 ft. from the other side of the building.

It was cold---this was at ~7,000 feet elevation.
