June's topic :: Landscape
This month we had 12 entries that to the best of my knowledge complied with the contest rules of being newly shot photos for the photo contest (i.e. they didn't have exif data indicating they were taken prior to the announcement of the contest). The photo contest is here to encourage new work, not to be an opportunity to pull photos from a catalog of images, as such some entries were not included in the poll.
This month the highest resolution version available up to 800 pixels wide is being posted below. If the highest resolution version was larger than that the medium version that the NAM gallery auto resizes to is provided.
Please review all the photos before voting.

June's Photo Contest is again sponsored by VacuCam.
The prize for this month will be a VacuCam Tow Hook camera mount. Although it's still being manufactured, it will be sent to the winner when its finished. (Minus the Camera and Red Tow Hook). Better pictures coming later, but it's compatible with any small video/still camera.
If that doesn't appeal to the winner, they can opt to receive a detailing DVD.

In either case, the Tow Hook mount is there to increase your shooting options or the DVD is there to help you maximize the shine on your MINI for the next photo shoot!
Note: If you voted in the original poll, you will see that you are able to vote again. This is not a mistake, you are not voting twice. The poll was reset when it was re-posted.
what happened to mine-???? it was just taken in May.. -?!?

LMAO! I didn't enter this month because I didn't have a recent photo. So I don't feel "burned", I just like saying "darn that darn EXIF data!"

Also, just to clarify, I don't formally review each entry until the contest poll is put together. All I can tell people prior to that is that an entry was received by them into the contest gallery. It is not the responsibility of the contest manager to review entries prior to the deadline and give them a second chance. The requirement for new photos was mentioned in announcement of the topic.

From the contest rules
The monthly photo contest is designed to give you a reason to get out of the house and shoot, be creative, show your own personal style, and to have your work voted on by the members of North American Motoring.

Believe me, I'd like to have submitted a photo for this month's contest, but I didn't shoot anything new that was worthy of entry for this topic (autocross, a graduation, and some nature photography with no MINIs, but no MINI related landscapes). It would not be fair to those who did go out and shoot to the topic to have photos entered taken before the contest was announced (how fair is that?).

You need to set the date/time on your camera then.
In any case, the photo submitted was still taken prior to the contest topic being announced. Again, the contest is here to have members get out and shoot photos with the photo contest topic in mind. The June contest had not been announced when your photo was taken in May. That's why it isn't eligible.

the date showed up as being before the contest was announced at the beginning of June. If that's in error then let me know. Also, for the future check your camera to make sure the date it is set to is correct. That gets stamped on each image the camera takes and that is what was used to make the determination that the photo was taken prior to the contest being announced.

Why not ask before you hack it out of the contest! How many people care what the date is on their camera. I followed the rules... may be my last entry as well. By the way the that is an error, yours.
The jpeg file information carries the date of June 23, 2006 9:09AM!!!
Sorry to sound so flip, but I look forward to this every month. I'm very disappointed.

This is getting out of hand
I think everyone needs to take deep breath and relax. The contest has rules, they need to be followed. If they have been followed and there is a problem, then deal with it in private.
Since it's been said by several of the people with withdrawn entries that they didn't care about any prizes being offered, then what is there to lose if your entry gets counted this month or next?
I started offering prizes a few months ago to the winners to try to get more people interested in the contest. So far it's worked in that the entries have become more plentiful and of much higher quality than in the past. If you don't like the prize, then don't accept it if you win.
If anyone feels so upset about this contest that they don't want to enter it again, then that's your right. There is nothing stopping you, but the truth is that there will be others that WILL enter. It's not like NAM is going to lose any money over lost entries!
Just my 2 cents.

It sucks, but what would you do if you were in Dave's shoes?
I hope you continue entering the contest, if only so I can continue to kick your butt.

I'd notify the person! Last month's winner was photoshopped, and this month several get thrown out cause the date doesn't jive! Very odd. An apology would also be nice, to those of us who did the work and were booted without even an attempt to verify our pictures.
Octane, I'm very grateful that you offer a prize. However, I'm among those who would turn it down (just don't need it, cause I wouldn't know what to do with it). I'm not miffed about the prize. I don't even think my shot would have stood a chance of winning.
I enjoy doing this every month. To all of a sudden have it taken away is very annoying. We drove through NH, VT taking various shots just for this contest. I sat with my wife going through them to decide which to use. In short, doing this in the spirit of the contest, its rules, and for pure enjoyment. To have it taken away because the date wasn't set on my camera...

This whole thing of just throwing out shots *****-nilly stinks. Next month, are we gonna throw out anything that is cropped? I'd like to know the hidden rules now.
