Pics from the Australian Grand Prix!
Hi folks! Good to see you all. Long time no post! For those of you who don't know I'm now living in Melbourne, Australia hence the dissappearance...
Anyway, good to see all these great AMVIV shots! I love 'em! Sounds like yet another great event and some fantastic looking MINIs!
Thought I'd share some pics from this weekend for the GP!
This event was an absolute blast! Living next door to Albert Park and listening to those engines roaring since Thursday has been absolutely terrific! Thousands of people turned out which is good considering how pricey tickets were. I got a GA 4 day pass for $175! If I wanted to actually sit in the stands, that would have set me back about $700 for all 4 days or $350 for just one day.
Anyway, the ROAR of the engines is just something so spectacular, I can't wait to do it again next year. Shooting the cars however was much difficult. Your visibility to the track is good if you want to get up close but for taking good pictures it's difficult. I snuck into a few spots where I good get some distance and let the zoom lens takeover. It is really, really hard to take a panning shot of a car doing 150 mph blazing past you!
The other thing, 3 pace cars...1 CL 65, 1 M5, 1 E 55 Touring. The MB's did NOT have stock engines. They sounded like track cars! The amazing thing is you never really notice just how flat out they have to go to keep the F1 cars "happy" in a warm up mode or during being out as the safety car. If any of you watched this race you'll know that they were plenty of times when it had to come out!
On to the pics! All shot with a Canon D60. Mixed modes, 2 lenses with polarizers. Focual length of 28-300mm between both lenses. Most shutter speeds were at 1000 but you still can see the tire tread is blurred!

Great shots Haf and I’m sure you had a fun time. Thanks for the ground eye look because many don’t know how hard it is to shot a race through fence and cement blockades. It truly gives the prospective of being right at track side.
Excellent shots, sir...you picked a great venue to live near.
I'm sure that the clouds helped a great deal. It's not easy shooting fast cars through a sunlit metal grid. Gone are the days of close proximity and only armco to shoot over.
I gave up photographing F1 several years ago when the shots through the fence barriers at Montreal and Indy became mundane. Unlike 10 years ago, there's always an excellent array of pics from the professionals to be found on the 'net.

Great shots! F1 cars are something else. I was up at the Ga Tech auto show this weekend and was able to get up close and personal with Coulthard's Red Bull car from last year. What an amazing piece of engineering.
