Just a general observation: pay a little more attention to the background.

Just some of the things I saw in your photos: a couple dumpster, a soccer goal, light polls, a swingset, random cars, and a building that looked out of place.

You have a couple options and you don't have to do one or the other, you can do both:

1) position the car and shoot from a perspective that hides these objects behind the car. If you shoot from a low position and aim up a bit, you can lower your horizen and get some of the "clutter" to hide behind the car (even with a MINI. ).

2) If your shot still has these objects in it, then you could remove them in post processing.

Again, you can do both of these things. For instance with a lamp post, you may shoot low and hide the concrete block at the base and a good chunk of the poll, but part of the poll may still "grow out of the top" of your MINI in the photo. At least since you shot from a low position you only have to remove the very top of the lamppost since you set your shot up that way.

Hope that helps a bit.

Dave

Thanks for the advice, but i don't think you see the real focus in the picture of the MINI with the REFLECTION of the GLI in the doors. and I try to NEVER use Photoshop or any photo editing program for my pics. I also believe in the philosophy that if something is not meant to be, then it completes it and perfects it. Nothing is perfect, neither will anything be perfect.

Again, JMO but not using photoshop to adjust digital photos is like taking pictures with film and not being concerned with how they come out from processing. Digital image adjustment with photoshop does have quite a few parallels to film processing. It's not as though Adobe invented adjusting for an image being underexposed or overexposed, or dodging and burning for that matter. Heck in addition to his careful planning, intensive scouting, and study of light and film, Ansel Adams was also notorious for his specialized processing techniques. To each their own though. That's the beauty of photography we all get a chance to express our own creativity through the lens.

BTW, I did see the reflections and the shot with the bonnet and hood up, and I liked the them (especially the angle on the bonnet/hood shot).

Thanks, but i also believe you must not use photoshop to create great photos. You need to learn the technique. I quite frankly didn't think the pole was too much of a distraction because it was actually far away. Actually it was about 500 feet away.

ahh my car (jetta) is dirty in all those pics, we really took these pics spur of the moment to prove that a twincharged mini besides spi's exists, people called me crazy on vwvortex for saying that it did, so hopefully this explains the poor background and things like that,
Ben
p.s. some of those suggestions sound fun, i might have to experiment with photosho a bit!

oh yeah and hopefully next week we will have an exciting addition to our stable of cars!!! (sitting with fingers crossed) and in case your wondering its not a Mini or MINI!

Vwvortex is great, but the MKIV forum is crap... been on vortex for a couple years now, I don't think that forum is any help at all unless you want opinions on bodykits and wheels. Threads get blackholed and locked every hour over there from the stupidity.

back on topic

I understand your point on taking photographs to capture a moment in time. Thats why I prefer 35mm over digital. I do own a digital rebel also though and it's very convienient and produces great photos, but in my opinion, it doesn't make me a better photographer, because if the photo doesn't come out well, I just snap another, and another, and another, until it's perfect.

Now that doesn't mean Dave (DID) is wrong, because I'm 100% behind him on everything he said. Those programs are there for photo editing, nothing is perfect and can always be improved. I use photoshop everyday, it's very useful and helpful.

IMO
35mm = Hobby
Digital = Commercial/Professional

The way i look at it:
Digital: Cheap Hobby
35mm: Expensive Hobby/ Professional

I say so because producing professional 35 mm photographs are more expensive than producing pro digitals..I have a variety of many older cameras and i always prefer my digital Rebel over my Nikon N75 because I like to take atleast 70 photos.. It's more flexible, plus shutter speed is a lot more adjustable..
