What Cameras do you use?

I have been pondering what kind of things I want to keep my eye on, to buy as Christmas presents. One of the items on my mind is a camera. I have seen many amazing pictures on here, So i figured I'd ask what you guys use.

For quick Shots in the house I use a Nikon Coolpix
any type of sports or action I use the Canon EOS 1D MarkIV with a long zoom. I actually find that Nikon takes better night pictures, but its to slow for action shots, plus the lenses does not zoom enough. Its always goot buy a bit more camera then you really need, you can grow into it the more you use it.

I use a Nikon Coolpix also. I love it! If you want to check out some of my pics and videos from it, go to YouTube and do a search for CRoth73. All of the dash cam videos were taken with that camera. It's the Nikon Coolpix 630. If you want some DIY dash cam info just let me know. I have about $12 invested in the dash mount and it works better than a professional setup!

Olympus E-30

It is easier to link to it's details than to list them here.

Just bought a Nikon Coolpix P100 2 days ago, so still have a lot to learn about it but think I'm going to love its 26X zoom and the 1080HD video ability. It's supposed to be a one camera does all, we will see. The best price I could find was Amazon.com at $329.95.

I use a Canon Rebel XSi with Sigma 17/70 lens (I bought just the camera body and the separate lens).

One of the guys in my camera club has had good results (and some awards) with a Panasonic Lumix GF1 - it seems to be one of the best of the 4/3rds cameras which are in between point-&-shoot and DSLRs (ie smaller but still with the ability to change lenses).

I shoot a Nikon D90, mostly with a fixed 35 1.8 af-s or 50 1.4 af-s, but I also have a 12-24 f4 tokina, 24-70 f2.8 sigma, 70-200 f2.8 tamron. pertaining to the post, the best gift camera right now would be any of the micro 4/3 cams on the market now. the lumix GF-1 being one of my favorites(want).

Canon 50D. Several lenses depending on what I want to do. I also have a Sony P&S, a Canon P&S, a Nikon P&S and a few other cameras laying around. The Sony and the Canon SLR get the biggest workout.

Nikon D90 with a variety of lenses. But the biggest thing that makes a difference to me is a tripod! Its a pain but makes things so much clearer.

So many Nikon and Cannon cameras...

Tripods really improve your work. Being able to get any height and angle can really set off a shot. Don't even think about night photography without a tripod, unless you want high ISO grainy images.

sim to Rowzy,
a Canon T1i, with the stock lens, plus a 70-300 Sigma, and some fun stuff like Lensbaby and a fisheye macro. Half the time, though, it's just the iPhone camera. More than half, to be honest. Size matters.

Hmm.

The Lumix GF-1 looks pretty nice. Cnet gave it 4 stars, and editor's choice.

But, Amazon is having a sale for the Cannon T1i. Buy one, and you get a Cannon 55-250 IS lens for $7.99. WOW. Or a Cannon 75-300 Lens for -$13.01 (yes, i mean Negative cost, the lens costs $134, and they give you a $150 discount.)

Do you guys think that either of these cameras would be a much better choice? Any of you that own these have anything good or bad to say?

Also, we have a Tripod still laying around from my 35mm SLR. That was the most fun camera ever.

agarwaen- depends on what you want out of the camera and how much your going to use it. the gf-1 will run onto some preblems as far as lense availability and also in noise and image quality(strictly due to sensor size, it's an awesome camera) compared to a aps-c or FX DSLR camera.

Would be strictly recreational. Mostly stationary environmental pictures. Not tons of action shots. Sort of the Typical array of photos posted on here. There isn't a whole lot to do around here short of naturey outdoorsy stuff. The kind of stuff that you chance upon things that are something worth capturing in a picture.

Well I hoped to give the Nikon P100 a workout today on a MINI club outing to Idaho shooting stills and video. But the day was cold and rainy with some snow at times for 170 miles up and back. Visibility was 100 feet and the road spray and windshield wipers in continuous action, put paid to any front video, and nobody wanted to pose with their MINI in the rain. So a zero day, tomorrow will probably be beautiful.

ps; CRoth sent me his plan for the DIY dash mount, looks like a winner to me.

Take a look at the Canon G11 or G12. I use a G11 when I don't want to lug around the D2Xs and the D300.

Would you believe an Argus C3? I didn't think you would! Actually I use an aging Nikon D50 usually with an 70 to 200 MM lens. Now if I could afford a Nikon 200...

Fuji FinePix

I use a Fuji FinePix S100fs, 67mm Dia. Lens w/28 - 400 mm Zoom, 11.1MP with 2/3 (.666") Super CCD HR Sensor

I looked at a lot of cameras and this is a great all around camera, not quite as good as some of the Nikon and Canons out there but for ~$500 it is the cost of one good lens for these cameras. The single (non-interchangable) 67mm lens with a 28mm to 400mm zoom gives you a zoom range of a couple lenses on the high end cameras in a single large dia. lens. It uses a CCD sensor instead of the high end Cmos sensor but is the largest CCD sensor I have found in any of the lower end cameras.
I was the photographer for my sons football team and my others sons wrestling team so I have taken close to 9,000 pictures with this camera over the last couple years and have had great sucess with some amazing shots. Don't get me wrong, this is NOT as good as many of the high end Canon and Nikon cameras out there and is not for the professional but is a great camera with a lot of features for the money.
