Official Nikon Club for NAM
Welcome Booklady!! Get out and take pics. it's the only way to get to know the 'ins & outs' of your new camera. Posting pics. isn't that difficult, what software are you using at the moment?? I've got Photoshop Elements 5 and Nikon Capture NX 2, both very good, and less expensive than some of the others. Everyone will have an opinion, so find one that works for you and your budget.
Good Luck!!
Good Luck!!
Geko 201...Anyone have one AND use it??
Just found out that the Garmin Geko 201 that we have had for years is a compaticle GPS unit to go along with my D200. Just wondering if anyone else has one and actually uses it?? I just bought all the cables I will need to use it with my camera as well as getting updates from the Garmin Website.
Fancy you should ask, I found the information I was looking for @ www.nikonusa.com!! If you've registered your equipment ie. Camera, Lenses, etc., you can log in and in the Service & Support section they will list all of the accessories for your specific camera.
I'm also a Member of www.nikonians.org, it is a great website for Nikon Junkies, my Handle is: NikonDiva!!

I went to the Garmin site and they had nothing for cameras.
I did not expect to find any thing on the Nikon site. Nikon repaired my D70 out of warranty (Blinking light of Death) and my 17-55 was covered by Nikon extended warranty after I dropped it. It took a while for the parts to arrive but I have the lens back and it is as sharp as ever.
John
Thanks. I will check them out

I thought the problem was something that I had done. I went out with the cash I was saving for a D200 and purchased a 70s. I chose the 70s over the D80 that had just come out as I needed a camera, I already had extra cards and batteries (I think the D80 uses the ...3e).
A little more than a year later I came across the service advisory. I called the service rep even though my camera did not display all the symptoms. The rep said I should send it in. The camera came back working as good as new. They also did a good cleaning inside and out (sensor, mirror etc.).
Had I known where to look I could have sent my camera in. I did talk to a sales rep at the local Ritz and another store before purchasing the second camera. In both cases they did not know of the advisory.

likely to much info. Not being able to purchase the D200 left me a little upset with the two dealerships.
It all worked out for the best as I now have a D300 that I really like. The Live View is a feature that I did not consider in my purchase but surprisingly use more often than I thought. I find it very useful for taking candid shots at parties.

This is all IMHO of course, so take it how ever you wish.
Camera World of Oregon used to be a very good place to buy camera's, lenses, film & dark room supplies. That was before they were bought buy Ritz & went downhill fast. I won't step into a Ritz & if they go belly up I see no great loss in that.
Hey Crash...I really thought I would have been Flame Basted on this one. Local shops are where I get the help and answers I'm looking for. Pro Photo is great, I bought body and (1) lens from The Shutterbug, various purchases elsewhere. Sad to say even, bought and sold on FleaBay.
No flames from me...
Here in my town there used to be two good camera shops. I supported them all I could. They both went belly up so I buy my gear on line now. Mostly from B&H & KEH.
If you have a good shop that helps you then by all means help them by spending some money there. Sadly that is not an option for me anymore.

Now I use B&H or if I want to go local (Berkeley) I'll go to Looking Glass Photo.
