Official Nikon Club for NAM
I was saving for a D200 when they came out after buying the D70. Instead I paid for my daughter to join her HS Crew team, then got a nice lens (Nikkor 17-50 f2.8) then I was spending so much time taking sports photos of autocross (gotta keep the thread car related) and crew...I picked up a used lens (Sigma 120-300 f2.8) then paid for the Daughter's wisdom teeth removal... well you get the idea. I have been waiting about 3years to upgrade the D70. The D200 is a great camera.

Put NIKON P6000 to the test
Brought the new Nikon P6000 along, during the holiday road trip to South Dakota.
It performed better than I've expected.
Not bad at all for a point'n shoot camera. Actually, it is one of the best point'n shoot I've ever owned.

Chicago, a day after Christmas.

US-385, South Dakota. Sunny + Windy + Snowy

Lead, South Dakota.

Wall Drugs, Wall, SD. The camera performs beautifully even under a very difficult lighting situation.

Badlands National Park, SD. One of the most scenic road I've ever seen.

Badlands at dusk.

Badlands, SD. What a color.

Lake Washington, Mankato, MN. Driving on the icy lake was fun experience. I wish I had my MINI with me.

Gateway Arch, St Louis, MO.

I really like the curve.

Downtown St Louis, MO.

Eads Bridge, St Louis, MO.

Another angle of the Gateway Arch.

Ha I was scrolling through thinking how awesome the pictures were, then really got a surprise when I read they were from the point and shoot. Good job.
I'm having difficulty cleaning the sensor on my D40, any of you guys got any good tips? This stuff must be stuck good because the squeeze blower and brush do nothing. I folded up some cardboard and folded a lint free wipe (with a few drops of lens cleaner) over the edge to wipe the sensor with a flat edge. That made it better but its still not 100% crap free.

also go back to post 143 in this thread. It took me several trys to get all the dust off. It will be easier the next time though. The kits are not cheep.
I use a can air blower with the tube bent 90° (use a lighter). I then hold the camera body upside down (with the sensor facing down), and stick the tube from the can air about an inch from the sensor. Give a couple of short burst of air, make sure the can is upright, you don't want to accidentally shoot some of those liquid from the can onto the sensor. Make sure you let the can warm back up after the couple of bursts, otherwise you risk shooting the liquid from the can onto the sensor. If you feel the need to attack it with a slight angle, then tilt the camera body instead of tilting the can.
I also like that they have hotshoe that we can use the speedlight, and it also compatible with Nikon CLS as well.
Most of the pictures on this trip were taking using program mode, just to see how the camera deals with different lighting situation. And it works great.
I love not to have to bring all my gears with me on family vacation trips. P6000 fit the job perfectly.

The only downside is the noise issue. Anything above iso 400 is not very good at all. So don't compare the P6000 with a DSLR.
It is a good camera with lot of good functions, but it's just a point'n shoot.
No matter ..... it will definitely be my carry around camera.
That is about the only point and shoot I'd rock. I'll probably end up getting a Canon waterproof point and shoot to use for paddling trips. I can carry my D40 fine for backpacking and mountain biking, they are awesome situations to have a DSLR.
Oh and I'm second shooting my first wedding with a friend who is into wedding photography this weekend. I just got my Cactus v2s wireless trigger in today (read: poverty wizard) so we will use our flashes and receivers together to set up the group portraits and such. I hope to learn a lot. I'm sure I'll learn I need a prime lens real quick, but he said there should be good lighting inside.

Nikon P6000 to the test, cont.
Another test, by using camera program auto. I let the camera decided what to do with this kind of lighting situation. Hand held (1/10 sec.), shot through the car window with the help of camera optical vibration reduction.
Very impressive indeed.

Neat Image
It's awesome.
A "carry around" camera is a MUST!! For those noise issues, I highly recommend this:

I'm using Noise Ninja for quite sometimes, btw. I'm familiar with NN2 interface, it also has both a Photoshop plug-in version as well as stand alone.
They both are pretty good NR programs. It's depending on who pick what (something like canon vs NIKON).
Noise reduction won't help much for some really noisy files. Loss of datas is expected, that will cause loss of detail in the images.
Yep noise is a problem with all of those small sensored cameras. I wish they'd stop trying to cram more & more pixels on those sensors. We are at a point where it doesn't help but hinders the photographer.
Noise reduction software can help, but like has been said ISO 400 is about tops.
Maxi nice photos!

My daughter is on a crew team. No on the water practice today:
Just getting to know the D-300. In the full size picture you can see the ice better.

Photoshoot I did with a friend for a Class 3 weapons dealer. They sell full auto weapons, suppressors, and any other kind of weapon your heart desires. They also do CHL classes for concealed carry, FFL transfers, and gunsmithing. Probably the coolest shot I've ever done.
Add me as a new member of the NAM Nikon club. Last week I ordered a brand new Nikon D90 SLR camera with the 105mm and 300mm lenses, plus case, 16GB memory card, filters, etc. I got a great deal at Amazon. The camera should be arriving here today and I am really looking forward to it.
My current camera is a Canon PowerShot SD600 which is a great compact camera but the Nikon is a huge leap forward in every respect.
Any pointers, suggestions, tips are appreciated. I am new to the world of SLR digital cameras. Another very cool feature of the D90 is the capability to record short video at 720p HD resolution, a first in the SLR class.
I bought the camera as we will be heading to Alaska on vacation in the coming months. But I need to start practicing with it and getting familiarized with its features.

Thats awesome about getting the D90! That looks to be a really great camera. One thing I wished I had started doing when I got my D40 over a year ago was shooting in (P)rogram mode. I used Manual 90% of the time for a whole year, but that helped me get real good at exposing. When I read what Program mode was I was like dang how did I not see this earlier. You scroll through different aperture/shutter speed combinations, so it is kinda like shooting in aperture priority mode, but the aperture changes when you zoom the lens in and out. It's all I shoot in now except for long exposures.
I am about to order the Nikon 50m f/1.8D for my birthday, I can't wait. That lens can produce some really amazing results. I think I am going to get a Canon camera backpack, lolz. $40 on amazon and way better than any of the lower priced packs I've seen. I will just 'Nikon is better' above the canon logo. It can hold a body with zoom lens, then like 6 more lenses and flashes. I don't plan on filling it anytime soon. I will just have 3 lenses, and hopefully a D200 body in a few months.
