More info on the Mini takes the States - West coast

The Mini takes the states tour starts on 8/6 in San Francisco. On 8/7 they are in LA.

http://www.eventjack.com/registratio...010/route.html

In SF and LA they have MINICross events where you can drive Mini's with professional drivers.

SF is still to be determined for some locations.

LA just posted up more info tonight.

There is an official MINI hotel --

Host Hotel: O Hotel
819 S. Flower Street
Los Angeles, CA 90017
Reservations: (213) 623-9904
Website: www.ohotelgroup.com

Group Rate: $109 per night plus tax
Group Code: MINI Group Block

The MINICross will be held in the parking lot of the Santa Anita racetrack

Activity: MINIcross
Date: Saturday, August 7, 2010
Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Location: Santa Anita Park
Parking Lot B
285 W Huntington Drive
Arcadia CA 91007
Phone: (626) 574-7223
Website: www.santaanita.com/

The official launch party will be downtown

Activity: MINI Countryman Preview Party
Date: Saturday, August 7, 2010
Time: 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Location: California Science Center
Wallis Annenberg Building
Exposition Park
39th Street & Figueroa Street
Los Angeles, CA 90037
Phone: (323) 724-3623
Website: http://www.californiasciencecenter.org

The next day there will be a morning drive off to the next leg of the event, with the next leg being Phoenix.

Activity: Rise and Shine Rally
Date: Sunday, August 8, 2010
Time: 8:00 - 9:00 AM - drive off 9:00 AM
Location: Santa Anita Park
Parking Lot B
285 W Huntington Drive
Arcadia CA 91007
Phone: (626) 574-7223
Website: www.santaanita.com/

My understanding is that there will be a group driving from SF to LA (route unknown) and it might be fun to at least see if we can possibly meet up that group/or merely just go down for the MINICross or the Preview party that night.

http://www.eventjack.com/registratio...istration.html

If you want to just do the MINICross where you can drive a Mini Cooper on the course, it appears this does not cost anything.

If you want a "goodie bag" you must pay $25. You can indicate that you want to go from LA to LA or from SF to LA without going the entire route.

> Goodie Bag (one per paid registration, received upon entry to route or at festival)
> MTTS 2010 Commemorative Credentials
> Limited edition city logo pin for each city visited
> Visit four route cities including Denver and receive an exclusive T-shirt

I'm not interested in driving all the way to Denver but thought it would be fun to drive down to Los Angeles and do the MINICross and Launch party.

Anyone else interested in driving down on Friday, attending the launch party?

The pdf of the official route has been posted and it's on the coast :-(

Karen and I are planning to go down Thursday (as I have to get my car serviced Friday) and then on Saturday to the minicross event

The 7 to 10 time spot is just when the party is going on. You should have a separate time slot for the minicross (prior to 5 p.m.) I'll check to see if it's filled up.

The site is acting really weird tonight. I know when I registered before it worked the best if you registered through the goodybag/registration full event link http://www.eventjack.com/registratio...tion_mtts.html
rather than through just the motocross event link.

I tried both so far :(. No luck! I just sent a email to Mini registration as well as calling them and leaving a message to call me back. I really hope they get back to me or I am going to have one unhappy group of people going wtf why cant we go.

Sadly we are on our way back home from MINI takes the States. It would have been fun to go to Denver, but work calls. We had a blast and met more great MINI owners. One couple we met in the parking garage of the O Hotel want to know if something was going on. The wife said she had never seen so many Minis in one spot. Come to find out she owned a MINI too but was not driving it on her trip. We were also stopped by a large group standing outside the hotel one night. They were all dressed in evening attire. The men wanted to know what was up with the MINIs. It was cool being part of the MINI revolution.

A little over 70 MINIs departed LA for Arizona on Sunday morning complete with Santa Anita police escort to the freeway. Nearly brought a tear to the eye.

We also met some greet ladies who handle MINIUSA press and public affairs. We are coming home with a MINI much more loaded than when we left! Between MINI swag and MINI Gear we have taken on at least 5 if not 10 more pounds. The grille badges alone must weigh one pound. We will post the rest of our pictures later today.
