Ohio friends. sign this petition.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/aut...ica-durban-law

Im sure you heard the story surrounding this one the news a while back...

"HB 191 generally would increase the penalties for street racing and also imposes automatic license suspension and vehicle forfeiture."

Im not really comfortable with all this power afforded to an officer. MY car could get taken from me at any stoplight if someone decides to step on it and take off beside me...even if im just minding my own business! I'd thus be 'street racing'

"For example, a first-time street-racing offense, without any injury or death, would result in a $1,000 fine, maximum six-month prison term and a minimum one-year license suspension, and any vehicles involved in the race would be impounded."

I for one dont feel any type of little petition will do much, but i just thought i'd share.

The Bill is still in the House, so get the word out and have them all contact the offices of their local State Reps.....Locate the telephone numbers and email addresses for every one of your State Rep's, and post them along with a generic paragraph as to your concerns and why this Bill should be shelved.

That would probably be very effective....my 2 cents.....

Might have trouble contacting your rep, as it was a local rep who authored the bill. But this is the best way to have an impact.

This needs to be stopped.

"Iwashmycar" is wrong on this issue, Ask any NRA member about getting screwey laws thrown out because of public response at the voter level. A cop may hear a car squeal a wheel at a stop light and swear someone was burning out street racing. A little sand or dirt in the right place will cause a $1,000 fine and a bunch of greef. One PO"d cop will also cause a lot of greef. A Corvette or Mustang just got away from a speeding ticket and the cop goes after the next Vette,Stang or Porsche ETC. that he sees.

We all need to bombard them with phone calls and letters to kill this idea before it gets started. It still is easier to kill a bill then repeal a stupid law.

What you said. Sorry for the bad wording on my part

[QUOTE][I for one dont feel any type of little petition will do much, but i just thought i'd share./QUOTE]

I'm with you for getting rid of this type of crap. The best way is these little petitions. I don't think this is just for Ohio. It is a Nationwide nightmare that needs to be stoped.

We are losing our freedoms faster then ever. Something needs to be done. The next thing will be the U.N. telling us we can't drive anymore.

I'm with you on the issue but as I said. I think you may be wrong on not believing a petition and letter campaign would be useless. I also want to "THANK YOU" for bringing this to all of our attention.

That is definately a good thing, but not related to the monica durban law, as it seems more speed related, vs 'racing'...i think they can still 'hear you' and bust you for racing

mainly good info ive taken from another site: depends on what part of the state your in, but i guess you could write them all
Here's how you find your State Senator's contact info:
http://www.ohiosenate.gov/
They all have email, if you prefer to contact them that way.

Here's some advice on writing a state legislator:

Attempting to sign, maybe it doesn't like safari? Anyways, thought some people would like to see this article from the Columbus Dispatch...

http://www.dispatchpolitics.com/live...G.html?sid=101

Be sure to check out the comments which happen to mention that one crucial fact that the man who hit her was DRUNK and potentially not racing...

Just remember this when election time comes around again. I am sure everybody who voted for this bill will say that they helped make the streets safer for everybody. Somoen needs to remind them that all they did was have a knee jerk reaction to an unfortunate event. True leaders look to the horizon and save us from future evil, sadly most of our elected "leaders" only know how to over-react to events in the recent past.
