Well we made it back safe and sound. The dragon was fun, but not worth the long drive in my honest opinion. We got one good run in Sunday before the rain came and made the road slippery, so we spent the day in the Smoakies park, where we took a great drive. I can not remember the name, but it is a one lane, one way, semi-paved road that ends on the Dragon. It was the most fun i have had in my car in a long time. There is just something about crossing bridges where the water goes over the top. We did not take our camera so I have to wait for our friends to send some pics of our fun day. Other funny story was getting passed by a scooter on a wet Dragon and then almost killing a guy on a second scooter who coasted up next to us on one of the corners, scooters are silly.

 

Sounds like a good time where did you stay? We are planning on going down there the second wk of September to hike and do the dragon.

That was it and I agree with your tale it was great fun. We ran into quite a few trucks going around 6 mph, but they all got over pretty quickly and let us by. I was glad to have my hollies as the ride was prety rough. Also since we had a chase car I took most of the creek crosings at a fair clip, there was only one that worried me

 

No camera! Man Allen what were you thinking? Glad you made it back safe & sound. I agree 100% on the dragon not being worth that very long drive. The salamander is much closer. You can tell me all about it Sunday morning.

 

In August of 1973 my father was taking me to college in Athens, Tenn. He decided that we would make this a week long family vacation. We camped out and had a fun time.
The last night we camped out at the campgrounds that is at the entrance to Cades Cove. The next morning we packed up and Dad drove us around the loop. When we came to that sign Dad stopped and was all ready to take the fully loaded family stationwagon down that road. At the time I think the sign said "Jeep Trail". And back then I thing it was not much more then two ruts in the side of the mountain. After a minute he thought better and continued on the ride around the loop.

Maybe next year I will take the ride down that road for Dad.

Killboy is being slow for some reason (I figured with the rain on Sunday they would not have as many pics and would be able to post them faster). It was Z weekend so there were a bunch of really nice Z's there. From the pics it looks like one ran into a bike on Saturday :(

 

Killboy has Sunday's pics up, there were some nice cars out in the rain. If you look on I think the 4th or 5th page of car photos you will see my behind a couple of Z's these people were not even going the speed limit I could not beleive the line of cars we had by the end, very dissapointing. But it was wet at that point so I was not too upset

Also there is a really nice black 911 that sounded near perfect it was going the opposite direction and I met up with it on one of the longer turns so my head was close to his exhaust as he put the power down it was awesome!

Anybody know the other two companies who take Dragon pictures?
