another budget accessory item

I've been at it again....
I have an iPod wire... I'm sure you all know what that is really called... but I am always getting in the car without the pod. So, I'm thinking, I'll use an old one (the "ipod mini" ) and leave it in the car (hidden when parked). Old iPod has a very old battery -- but it has a larger display, so that is the one to use. So I took it apart and put in a new battery -with some effort. I found a device holster on a clearance rack at Target. $3.
So, now I can leave the old pod in the car. Pull it up and put in under the mat or under the dash for storage.
To make the deal even better, Half Price Books was having a 50% clearance sale yesterday , so I got a handful of CDs at 50¢ each (sorry iTunes...). So new tunes....
Total $20 for new battery.
$3 for holster.
$3.20 for 6 CDs.

Only problem is the holster adhesive seems to soften when the car is warm, so I may need to use something else. Suggestions?

I'd be interested to hear how long your new battery will last leaving it in the car. I put a new one in mine and it's better, but it still drains within a few hours.

I will give a report. Since I usually take short trips in the MINI, it may be awhile until I know. I read somewhere 8-10 hours can be had out of this one -- Sonnes I think from MicroCenter. Your actual mileage may vary, you know.

I've had the iPod open now 3 different times. I think the head jack piece came loose or something weird. Sometimes the music is garbled. Then I open it up, reconnect everything and it's fine.
