I think this is the ultimate expression of Italian style...
Yep - I've got a long history of being underwhelmed with Maserati's styling.
The only one I can think of offhand that I really loved was the Merak, and that's a ~35-year-old car.
That's not to say they haven't had some *fast* cars, though. In my younger, dumber days, I got my butt handed to me at a stoplight by a plain-jane looking sedan. Turns out it was a Maserati Bi-Turbo. The car's looks *definitely* weren't on par with its performance.

I actually was recently thinking about trying to pick up an '05 or '04 GranSport Coupe but there still rather pricey even with 3 or 4 years on them [$60K range]... The new GranTurismo is $125K, I have no idea what this Newer S would cost nor does it matter unless I hit the lotto!!

Edit - Hey, I just noticed your sig - you ordered your car on me birthday, here's to wishing you the best with it
And this whole Porsche/Maserati thing is what the "Half the price... Twice the fun" line relates to in my sig... I'm looking very forward to joining the ranks of my new MINI friends!!
Allen, based on all the recent articles it sounds like you might be able to go to MAG to buy your new Alfa: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/08/m...os-in-the-u-s/
It looks very nice, but I remember the fine FIAT's that were sold here & watched them dissolve before my eyes.

You younger guys don't have those memories & hold no prejudices against FIAT or Alfa. You young guys are their only hope of them being able to make a comeback here in the states.

I like all except the front grille. it reminds me of what subaru tried for a year or two with there cars, sales dropped drasticly till the new grille style came in, then they went back up.
This is true, but everything made of rubber or vinyl turns to dust in the heat & sun. I'd take that over rust anytime.
Subaru stole that look from the Saab 93.

Alfa came up with that on their own & to me it looks right & proper even on a FIAT Alfa.

really?
while restoring old cars, you only need dash pad, and weather strip. usually to combined total of 800-1000 installed (entire vehicle)
versus rusted out panels, floors,1/4's anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000

Unobtainium parts....
I was agreeing with you.
You are right, but if you have ever tried to source out some of those rubber & vinyl pieces on an old car you'd realize that although rust does suck & we all hate it. At least once can patch rust holes in the garage, but you aren't going to be able to make a dash pad a window molding or any other of a what seems like hundreds of vinyl or rubber parts yourself. What's worse is they are unobtainium at any cost. Throw enough money at anything & miracles are possible.

sorry, read the response wrong on the plastic, rust.
i find that as long as you don't have anything to off the beaten path, you can find the basic parts for it.
The rarer the vehicle the harder the find for sure!
probably explains why we always see the same vehicles getting restored over and over again.

I have a good friend that we are trying to help finish his vintage rally car project. It's a 1972 Datsun 510 that he's converted to right hand drive for use on English vintage rallies. You would not believe how hard some of the items are to source. They made millions of those cars, but no one saved them.
They were throw away cars. Racers saved some of the cars, but they also threw away things like interior items that we need. Don't need that stuff on race cars. Anyhow it can be tough finding a lot of the bits. It's a very frustrating, but a very rewarding task to put together an old car especially an odd one.

The oddball always stands out!
thats one of the reasons I stopped going to the good guys shows. How many 32's, tri 5's, camaro's can you look at in a day?
and they all have the same bolt on, weld on kits.

Allen I found this & thought of you. THIS is the Alfa you need.
Not to drive, but just to stare at.
