Yet another Marylander
Hey y'all
Wow, my first post... I dunno what to say!
Actually, lemme start by saying that my name is Phil, I live outside of Columbia MD, and I have owned a Mini S for exactly one day now, and I can't be more thrilled. A gearhead since I was 6 years old (really!), a lover of Detroit musclecars, sports cars from all over, and 4WD pickups, a very adept mechanic as a side trade as well as a hobby, and all-around nice guy
.
I decided that my next new car would be fun for a change, and I definitely hit the target with this one. Call it a mid-life crisis (nah) or just me being a big kid inside (heck yeah), but I have a firm belief that cars should be fun without being entirely impractical, and this little pocket rocket delivers. It is also one of the very few cars I fell into instant love with that I could afford. As I tell friends of my new wheels, they at first can't believe that I could actually fit into one much less would want to have in the first place, given my previous history of vehicles. For the record, I fit quite comfortably in it at 6 feet and 265 burly pounds. And no, I haven't tried to lift the car yet as some have asked me
.
I plan on lurking and posting on this board and hopefully even gathering with other Mini owners for one reason or another. So far this looks like one heckuva active forum.
Thanks for the welcome in advance!
Phil

Sheesh, a very active forum indeed! So many replies in such a short time!
Color and specs, here goes...
'03 MCS, Dark silver metallic top to bottom, Panther black leather with alloy interior, 17inch wheels/tires (or should that be 'tyres'?) on order which should hopefully be in next week, DSC, NAV, cold package, auto climate control, Premium pkg, CD with 6disk changer, Rally lites (dealer). Just about fully loaded except for the xenon headlights, parking sonar and fog lights (which I plan on getting eventually).
Do you MD guys get together at all? If so, what sorta things do you do?

Just curious to see how many minis are out here in the Balt/Wash burbs. I'm a mini owner who just happens to have a autoshop in Howard County and have adopted the Mini as our new favorite vehicle to have fun with. Thirtyone years experience with British and German cars and this new Mini really just blows everything else away. We're going slow right now, trying all the stuff that's available out there in an atempt to weed out all the snake oil . We've preped our car right now for some upcoming track days at S. Point so we can accurately evaluate the base car and the mods. Chow, bmfmini
Welcome!
I'm up in Balto County north-north east of the city. There are two or three MINIs around here but so far haven't met any of their owners either here or in person.
Enjoy the heck out of your MINI, GreatBear!

Okay, a little update:
First off, I am enjoying the livin' daylights out of my MINI. That is, whenever I get a chance (or excuse) to drive it. Today, after a very springlike day prior, it's SNOWING and nasty outside. Though this does give me a chance to keep working on myriad tasks at home.
Fun Stuff:
My friends. They all know me as the guy who stuffs big-block Mopars into everything and drives around in a big one-ton Dodge Cummins Diesel 4x4. I tell them what I just got and it's like:
On A Serious Note:
Only a couple issues with the car. I am still waiting for the 17inch wheels/tires to come in, so in the meantime I can scrub up the 16s. The shifter **** decided to suddenly jettison a large chunk of the clear plastic overlay in the middle. Happened last week during one of the few sunny days we had lately. I came back to the car when leaving work and was greeted with that. No biggie I guess, seeing that the **** just pops off. The **** did pop off once while hurrying it through the gears too. The Nav system sometimes takes forever to show up, and the logo was only ever displayed once; I read about this similar problem in another part of the forum and it seems to be repaired with a firmware update, but many have complained of losing the British female voice for an American male. I'll put up with it as it is before I lose part of the car's charm.
Again, I'm glad I found you guys (and gals) and I am looking forward to doing something with some of you, be it a drive or a meet or whatever.
Cheers!
