Solomon's Island Run - Saturday, Sept. 6th

Oh yes - this is going to be a GOOD one!! Definitely one you don't want to miss This event is for ALL MINI owners - DC METRO MINIS members or not

Our starting point will be just off Indian Head Highway (Rt. 210 South) in Maryland. From there we will take a very beautiful scenic drive (with some great twisties thrown in for good measure)! These roads are just beautiful and will take us through some gorgeous Amish country.

Our final destination will be the Lighthouse Inn on Solomons Island where we have reserved the upper deck (inside) area for lunch. The views are just spectacular!! The Patuxent River on one side & Solomons Harbor on the other. After lunch, there are some great little shops to poke in and out of.

Lunch will be from a limited menu as they normally don't serve lunch inside on Saturdays. So a little variety I hope everybody will like  The price is $13.50 which includes lunch, drink, tax, and gratuity. If you want dessert, it will be $17.50. And they will be happy to do separate checks for us. You can check out their website at http://www.lighthouse-inn.com.

Now for some minor details:

Motoring Group 1:

Those coming from Virginia and maybe some other parts, we will LEAVE PROMPTLY at 9:30 am from the Galleria at Tysons 2 - which is just off Rt. 123 and International Drive. We will be heading down 123 to the GW Parkway and making a stop at the Columbia Island Marina to pick up the next caravan.

Motoring Group 2:

If you do not wish to meet at the Galleria, Motoring Group 1 will be picking you up at the Columbia Island Marina which is off the GW Parkway going South. Please plan to be there no later than 10:00 am as we will just be swinging in and adding you all to the caravan to our starting point. We anticipate leaving here no later than 10:15. Of course, traffic will play a big part on timing....For those of you who went on the Italian Job Run, this is the same Marina that we made a pit stop at before arriving at the theatre. From here we will continue down the GW Parkway, get on Rt.1 for a short distance, and then the Beltway (uggg) over the WW Bridge.

Motoring Group 3:

If you do not wish to meet either Group 1 or Group 2, you can go straight to the starting point and plan to be there no later than 11:00 am. Here are the directions. Off of the beltway, coming from Maryland, it is the LAST exit before crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Going from Virginia, it is the FIRST exit after crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Take Rt. 210 South. Go 5 miles and turn Right on Ft. Washington Rd. Then make an immediate Right (there is no street name but there is an Exxon Gas Station) into the Auto Zone parking lot. There used to be a Food Lion there, but it is empty so we can use that portion of the parking lot to group before we start our drive.

Things to remember:

Eat a big breakfast, bring some water and snacks in the car as it may be a while before you eat. And don't forget your FRS radios....

Please RSVP if you are coming so that we know where you will be that morning. We don't want to forget anybody....

See you soon...

Chow!

Sounds good -- I think we'll be there.

We in MD might want to define a Group 3a starting point -- like the I95 rest stop south of Rt32. Paddy and I met LaughScott there before the Tim's party.

Just had to chime in and say that I wish I still lived in the area and could go on this meet! When I was in high school I spent nearly every other weekend down in that area (Broomes Island, specifically). And even though I know it's somewhat more developed now than it was 25 years ago, I'll bet it's still quite beautiful. Have fun, DC-area motorers!

 Tom - that's probably a good plan. I figured there might be something set up over that way... ) Lots of farm land still around which is amazing to me......the Amish country is just gorgeous...

Oooh oooh oooh.... I might be able to make it to this one!

The 3a starting point Tom is describing would work for me, I am about 5 miles from there. It's been AGES since I have been down that way, and I used to love the ride back then.

Can I come? Huh? Huh?

As a result of Donna's sexy posting and responses seen here, I'll make go ahead and make a specific proposal:

Donna's announcement proposed three meeting places, which converge on Location 3. I'll suggest meeting point #4: Meet at 10:00 AM at the southbound reststop on I-95, just south of MD32, between Columbia and Laurel.

Greatbear and I (and probably Paddy?) will collect the wayward miscreants (like LaughScott) and invent some interesting path south to Indian Head Hwy to meet everyone else. For those affected, please announce you interest and suggest a favorite route (that hopefully will avoid the Anacostia Freeway and Blue Plains!).

I picked up my MCS on Friday, Aug 21. On Saturday, I drove to Williamsport for the Little League World Series and then to State College (Penn State). I'm doing my best to keep it up 4500 and I'm over halfway there. By the time, I got home I was well over 600 miles.

I'll definitely be there on Sept 6. I'm really excited to get out and motor with some Mini's en masse. I only saw two Minis all weekend and one was a dark silver/black MCS leaving as I pulled into a Sheetz in a little town off I-99 a few miles north of Altoona. Then a pure silver Cooper going north on 270 on the final sprint home.

I love it. I had one early scare with a hiccup after my first stop, but it's been very behaved ever since and I've pretty much figured out the clutch and first gear. The biggest relief was putting the headrests down on the backseat. They had been all the way up and I was having a temporary nightmare over the lack of rear visibility.

So come next weekend I'm ready to saddle up. I only wish it was it was this Saturday.

Not sure about all the answers but the second meeting area - Columbia Island Marina works for me. I can't pass up a chance to get on the GWP.

Oh, yeah, we'll probably be coming too! We'll meet up with you guys at Tysons. Is The Gallery at Tysons 2 a specific entrance to the mall?

Hmmmm, I'm going to try to make it, too. I will be leaving for Georgia the next a.m., but if things are going smoothly I might be able to be there. I will be meeting up at the 95/32 location. Hubby is working but it would be nice to meet some other MINI folk.

Will know for sure later this week.
