Come join the dcmetrominis for a fun day of entertainment and prizes!!

Time: 9:30 am
Place: Dulles Town Center Mall – Hecht Company Parking lot

The mall is located on the left just off of Rt. 7 West in Countryside/Sterling VA.

We will start the Scavenger Hunt at 10:00 – As soon as everyone returns within the specified time, we will motor out past Leesburg to White’s Ferry and take it across to Maryland. There is a charge for the ferry – one way is $3.00 and round trip is $5.00.

We have rented a Pavilion, which is covered and has plenty of picnic tables. Because the club is just getting started, we are asking for a $3.00 donation to help offset the cost of the Pavilion. This will be collected before the Scavenger Hunt begins.

The picnic setting is right along the Potomac River and C&O Canal. There are horseshoes and volleyball available. Also, bring Frisbees and footballs, as there is plenty of space for fun JJ. Since this will be a picnic style lunch, bring whatever you want and even something to share, we know we all like to eat!!!

Also available are boat and canoe rentals if you want to play after the event is over. You can also walk along the C&O Canal path. There are bathrooms and port-a-potties on the property. There is a small snack bar with hot & cold food available. But I wouldn’t recommend it as a small Mom & Pop type place – meaning slow J There are cold drinks available along with beer. Alcohol IS allowed on the property as it is privately owned, so bring it if you wish. While we don’t encourage drinking & driving, a nice cold beer on a hot day might taste just dandy!

This is a great way to check out what dcmetrominis is all about. If you haven’t registered for the club yet, you can do that if you wish at some point during the day. It’s only $25. Later in the year we will be having “Member Only” events – so you don’t want to miss out on the fun!!

So a reminder of things to bring: FRS radios (channel 7-21), a full tank of gas, wear your MINI stuff if you have some, $3 or $5 for the Ferry, picnic lunch and something to share (optional), $3 donation, and yourself J

RSVP here or send an email directly to me at donna@dcmetrominis.org. It’s going to be a fun day – one you won’t want to miss………….

Chow!

Donna

We're a resounding maybe. I really want to go, however it depends on how Patricia feels, hopefully at least we'll be able to make the trip on the ferry and over to the picnic grounds if nothing else.

If we go, everybody can meet Joe Cocker..... the dog. ) let me know.

Donna/Mike,
Would love to come, but unfortunately I have 7 tons of pea gravel that I have to move off the street to my backyard this weekend. BTW, a friend at work told me about this great set of roads up your way. He said it is the best driving in the area. Tons of curves. He said you take 7 west out of Leesburg to 601 North over to 50. The road runs along the river and is lightly travelled. He then takes 50 east to 606 south back over to 7. Its about 15 min each way. He said the best speed he could get on 601 was about 50 and only about 40 on 606 because of all the curves. Do you know the roads? My next spare afternoon I'm going to give it a shot.

D/M.

Laura & I are joining you all in 'Dirty Girl' on Saturday for the hunt. In fact, we're bringing our 2 grandsons along too. Tonite we're showing them the old movie "Savenger Hunt" which should get them ready for almost anything!

And we're looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Jim & Laura

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.....

This day has been the best fun I've had! It was well planned, fun, and full of laughs and chatting. All of my favorite things.

Now, I know there are lots of photos coming from those who took photos; however, I just wanted to get up on MCO and let everyone know that this was a great day.

I have a dog who is sleeping and was too tired to walk upstairs to his comfy bed; Michael is sprawled on the sofa taking a much needed rest and I'm sitting here with my feet up.

The day started with a great hunt; which included everything from shopping bags easily found at the mall to a bottle of water available from a furniture store. Now we had teams from all over, and there were a few who lived or worked near the 5 miles radius of the hunt; but frankly, the list was so varied that even those who go to the mall daily didn't know where everything on the list was. (Donna, would you be able to post how many people got what items? We are dying to know what we got that others got too). Ok, so does anyone need a VA DMV manual or a handful of dog hair?

After a strict 2 hour time limit, that even involved a few MINIs screeching into the Mall lot, Donna and Mike took our lists and lead the charge to the ferry and lunch. As it was past noon; we stopped to eat, before they even looked at our loot. Everyone was great and hardly mentioned what they got before it was time to take you bag up for "inspection." I heard lots of laughs as the bags opened up and the lists were read. Then as the people in power added the scores...we played. There were three dogs (Our Joe Cocker, Kaite & Paul's Cockerpoo Winston, and Minhi's mix-breed). The dogs all loved each other and played *SO* well. The kids playing with *****...and there was some odd things that got caught up a big tree -- I didn't ask.

Then Donna, standing on a table, annouces the top three winners. The third place person was only in third because he suffered a 9 point lateness deduction (I told you Donna was strict with time). Second place had high points, but couldn't compete with the over 300 points from first places winners....yours truly and Michael. We ran hard to win and know that by how close the top three scores were, that missing ONE item would have knocked us out of first place quickly.

Now, DCMetroMinis is a good group of fun people...they have even already provided my yet unborn son with his first DCMetroMini t-shirt. (Michael promises to post the photo tonight). That was a huge shock for us; but re-enforced how special MINI people really are.

I can't tell you how appreciative Michael and I are for the hard work of Donna, Mike, Deb, & Mark. I look forward to seeing all the photos people took!

This was the best event yet....perfect weather, great group of MINIacs, and a beautiful setting for our picnic!
The scavenger hunt was fun/ funny...tho' trying to run in a mall in slip-on sandals was not. I have blisters on my poor widdle footies..ouch.
Since we neglected to bring our camera, we didn't win. Oh well...my lesson is learned.
We all had sooo much fun, including the doggies. Winston slept like a stone until 10 this AM...unusual for him. He wants to know when we're gonna do it again.

Gigantic thanks and huge hugs to MikeandDonna, Mark, and Debb...and anyone else who helped....it was perfect, you guys!!!

As to Patricia's trivia question....all I can say is....woof!

Winston at least woke up. We got Joe to wake long enough to potty this morning and now he is back on his favorite chair and pillow sound asleep. He isn't even up for cat chasing, which is so rare for him. Anytime Winston wants to play Joe is up for a play date. And I'm always up for whatever can wear his happy butt out for almost a whole day.

Makes me wonder how Minh's doggie is doing today too. Also, don't you just love the photo Donna had of Minh with the dogs...I thought it looked like he was holding class with them all.

What a life, when a tennis ball is all you need to hold you attention for hours and hours. Then sleep for two days to recover.

haha! maybe my Fargo is spoiled since we play fetch almost every day. he was ready to go this morning for
his walk no problem. he even wanted to play fetch when we got home around 5PM yesterday.

maybe he didn't tire himself out as much as Joe and Winston, most times when i threw it he only took a few steps before turning around, he quickly realized he wasn't going to outrun the other dogs so why bother

Your photos are outstanding!!!! I love the shot you got of our dog running; got to be one of the best shots I've seen of Joe. I have to admit, I'm not sure Joe has completely recovered from his exercise Saturday...he's still not quite running around uncontrolably Cocker style.

I'm so glad you joined us and helped make this a wonderful day.

Cudos go out to all the great photographers who took such great shots of the day; everyone of them has captured how much fun and exciting this day truly was!

Run Joe Run! But wait, he'll drop the ball soon enough.

Glad you like the picture of Joe -- he certainly was lively! If you (or anyone else) want any high resolution versions, let me know. My originals were captured at 6 megapixels and should print OK at 16"x20".

I couldn't believe the shine on Minh's car. We live in the boondocks and have a 1/4 mile of dirt drive. My car is always dust colored!
