Rainbow Owners & MINI Enthusists - Philadelphia to P-Town Ra
Calling all Gay, Lesbian and Liberal-minded MINI Owners & Enthusiasts!
While planning is still quite in the early stages, I am working on coordinating an East Coast rally from Philadelphia to Provincetown from 12 September to 14 September, stopping along the way to pick-up fellow enthusiasts.
To take advantage of less traffic and lower costs of overnight stays, plan on taking off from work that Friday, and trek up the coast to spend time with "family" and friends. I welcome input on places to "trek-stop" along the way, scenic vistas and other worthy riding moments.
The intention is to leave the Philadelphia area by 9:00AM, then make stops every 2 hours or so, matching up with other Rainbow Owners along the way (Northern NJ, Central CT, Rhode Island, then upon crossing the Cape Cod Canal) for a final Rally ending at Race Point for a sunset photo op.
Plan ahead, put it in the books. Either post here, or send an email to me at laughscott@aol.com. Further details will be made available as timing gets closer!
Cheers.

WHOA!!! MCO has come a long way in the past year!!!
First off, I have been meaning to revive one of my very first posts: Gay roll call. I was bombarded with anti-gay sentiment and the moderators deleted the entire thread. Being new to the site, I figured I was in Kansas and better not say the "g" word here. Well, now that we've gotten more members, MCO has grown up and now we can talk about our minority membership out in the light of day!! Thanks Scott for rounding us up.
That said, I will entertain the idea of a road trip to Ptown. An informal request to the girlfriend and she replies "YEAH< LET'S GO!!!" Keep us posted Scott.

Dear All,
As we are working on the agenda (and input and ideas from the field are always welcome), here's the initial thought to date:
12 September:
8:00AM - Leave Philadelphia
10:30AM - First Pit-Stop at one of the three MINI Dealers around NYC(Westchester MINI, MINI of Fairfield Co. or Prestige MINI, depending upon interest from the Dealers)and meet up with more MINI owners.
1:30PM - MINI Mystic Pizza Pit-Stop - photo ops and short jaunt through scenic Mystic, CT and meet up with more MINI owners.
3:30PM - Heritage Museum and Gardens, Sandwich, MA - MINIs merge to view the J.K. Lilly Antique Automobile Museum and meet up with more MINIs owners.
6:30PM - Sunset Photos on Race Point, Provincetown, MA
8:30PM - MINI "Drag" Race down Commercial Street
13 September:
Details are being formulated, but our goal is to have a competitive MINI Scavenger Hunt around the Lower Cape, with an evening fun activity in Provincetown.
14 September:
There are two major events happening on Sunday, and if timing permits, we want to take advantage of both of them.
The Harwich Cranberry Professional Arts & Crafts Festival runs from 10:00AM to 5:00PM, and the Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta.
Hype it up to your fellow MINI enthusiasts, and let's have some fun!!!
Email me if you need additional information at laughscott@aol.com.
Lodging at several of the local B&Bs are being reviewed as we speak!
Cheers.

Well,
Either there aren't many Mid-Atlantic members interested in Motoring along the Cape, or the planning is still too far in the future!
More news from the organization front.
We've secured a Host Guesthouse in P-Town (The Aerie House) that will be providing a Cocktail Party on Saturday Night (when we award the Scavenger Hunt winners) and is providing complimentary access for Car Washes (a rarity in P-Town) for all ROME Rally-ers.
Accomodations are being provided by http://www.provincetownfavorites.com, a network of 11 guesthouses. With a wide variety of facilities and price ranges, they are thrilled to host our group! Mention ROME in the comments section on their online registration, or when calling to obtain a 10% Discount at any of the Guesthouses.
Dinner reservations are secured at The Lobster Pot for Friday Night. While still gathering final details from the Judges, our Scavenger Hunt already has over 30 items, with the potential for 600 points through 4 towns (Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown). We've secured a photo lab to develop quickly for the awards and general laughs!
We're picking Stonington, CT as the stop-off point for all of our Southern New England Motorers to meet, a lovely restaurant on the harbor.
More details to follow, and Scavenger Hunt details will not be posted until the week before, so we don't have too many "cheaters" taking early photos (but cheating during the week-end of, is certainly allowed!).
We're waiting to hear from you!!! We have about a dozen cars so far, let's get this thing up to 40-50 MINIs, and take the Cape by storm!!
Drop me an email at laughscott@aol to confirm!
Cheers.

What a great idea! I hadn't seen this thread before, as I do not reside in the mid-Atlantic. Although happily hetero, I'd love to hook up with you guys in Sandwich or somewhere else in southeast Massachusetts and ride along for a while. I probably won't hang out for the whole weekend, but would love to join up for a bit. I'll keep an eye on this thread. You might want to post a link to it in NY/NE as well, if it's not there already.

Chrisnl and Harmini!!!
Hey, as I mentioned, ALL are welcome!!! It's about comraderie!!!
Join us in Sandwich. If you've never been to the Heritage Museum, they have one of the most AWESOME collection of antique cars. The museum is the former sumemr residence of the founder of Lilly Pharmaceuticals! And they had a passion for cars!!! Zther grounds are wonderful too, for all the gardeners in the group!
Can't stay for the whole week-end??? Too bad!!! Phenagle out of whatever else you're doing!!! How often can you run ragged around Cape Cod, dodging MINIs all over the place, trying to get the best camera angle for the prizes!!!
HARMINI - SO GLAD the schedules have been freed up!!! We're up to 16 right now, but almost everyone is from down our neck of the woods.
I WANT 50 MINIs running amok!!!

If I can work around some obstacles that are unfortunately in place at that time, you can count me in as well. I have this 'penciled in' so far and I hope to make it happen. I am in MD, but not that far from Philly, less than 2.5 hours.
The itinerary looks schweet! Sounds like it is going to be one helluva run.
Thanks for all the effort so far, Scott!

Hey GreatBear,
Glad to hear you can join in the fun!!!
Only 2.5 hours from Philly???
Boy, you drive slowly!!!
Send me an email, there will be more documentation sent out to everyone as we get closer, too much detail for the threads!!!
Cheers.

This is looking good. Kudos to Scott for all his hard work.
Harmini and Chrisneal are coming to the Cape? Fantastic!!
As the Self-Annointed Grand Potentate of MINI here on the Cape I welcome you all with open arms. Hmmm, I should have a definite advantage with the Scavenger Hunt. Bribes will be considered for advice from this "local". But I've been known to give tourists directions to the Nantucket bridge so watch out

CCM,
Bribes are gladly accepted!! We all could use a little potentate!!!
Besides, HARMINI is one of the judges, so you'll have to bribe her!! And I think, with input from Cape Cod MINI and my friends in P-Town, we might have come up with a few places you might not even know about, but you'll have to wait until 8 SEP to get the details. Bribery is allowed, but cheating is not, at least not until the week-end of!!!
If I can figure out how to attach Pics, I'm trying to sho-off my new ZOE!!!
OK, I can't figure this out. HELP from the Peanut Gallery, how do you attach images to these threads???
Cheers.

Craig,
I've been following your banter with HARMINI over on the Bucks Tour. I've sent her numerous messages saying how jealous I was that you get to Motor with her this week-end, while I'm stuck taking carer of old-time visitors for the weekend!!
The things we do for friends, and I can't even get them out for the day, Sunday's booked with other activities!!!
Aren't Joe and Hugo just wonderful to work with at Otto's MINI?? I can't say enough nice things about them (shameless PLUG!!!).
My LY-MCS came home with me last week, so the break-in period will keep me struggling to keep up with HARMINI, and the rest of the crew on the various Rallies. There is another one in downtown Philly on 10 August!! Come to that one as well.
If your vacation time frees up, I'm sure you could Motor (or drive your regular car) with the rest of the crew to P-Town. You'll just have to scarf a Navigator seat for the Scavenger Hunt, that's reserved for MINIs!!!!
Cheers.

Don't worry Scott. I will be very aware that you are in the break-in period. I also wasn't kidding when I suggested that the group split up into two, those that want to go at koolmini pace and those that want to go at break-in pace. And remember, this isn't autobahn, these are sweet tree-lined roads of Pennsylvania.
Now, come September, you'll be WELL past break-in and we can make good time motoring up to the Cape.

Schaaaa-WEEEEET! Great lookin' ride!
I hope to be able to bum around with y'all for this big event (which has to be one of the best planned runs I have seen), all I need to do is have someone take care of my pooch, and I'm set!

Scott,
ZOE = Drooooooool.
I will have to take a raincheck on this one <pouting now> but I will meet everyone for the Philly run and will be ON the Aug 3rd. If you happen to make this one annual then I will want to go next year. I have never been North of NYC.
Going to MINI's On Top next year too.
Joe and Otto's MINI in general seems to be very enthuisiastic about the cars and even getting involved with some events. It's great to see this! I think they will make up for lost time no problem!!
Looking forward to meeting my future motoring mates real soon!!

Thanks for the compliment.
What kind of Pooch???? Bring them along as the official ROME Mascot!!!!
I'm sure you can find a B&B in P-Town that will let you bring your pet.

Should be fun!!!!

Believe me... I would if I could. I am over extended on days this year as it is.. I am getting a couple of "favor" days to get me through vacation in Sept and Oct.

Trust me.. I want to go but do not dare ask for another favor. I would like to have them there next year if I need them. <wink>
Motor on soldiers and I will hold down the fort!

My pooch is a Dalmatian which is now pretty much up in years. She always loved to ride along in my truck, but now she can't get in without me lifting her in. She would be a great motoring dog if she wasn't so old.
I miss those days. I'd open the door of my truck (big fullsize 4x4 that is quite high), and she'd jump in, climb across me then turn around and lick the hell outta my face, then she'd sit down and be ready to go. She'd often lay across the seat with her head in my lap during long boring highway runs, but she'd get back up and look around when I'd slow down or come to a stop. She'd call out to other dogs in cars next to us, but it was never a barkfest (from her, at least).
I'd bring her along, but now that she's half blind and does not get around too well anymore, it'd be too much of a trip.
I also need room for my partner and our stuff for the weekend. After all, it's a MINI!
