Sell it for as much as you can! .....Just dont ask for more than you actually paid for it new at the dealer. I believe, and I believe the market proves that aftermarket mods certainly will not raise the value of the car beyond new retail, and to most people they are actually a deterrent due to warranty issues and increased wear and failure of components down the road after the warranty has elapsed. There are many who think they can buy a car for 24k put on 3k of mods and ask 26k 2yrs later when they sale. If it sells great!, but not likely. So I say....sell it for as much as you can!

No need to be nasty...

Your location is key - one can price a car higher on the West coast than on the East, but $23K is probably a good starting point. Note: if you're looking to get the most $$ out of it, pull off the goodies that are 'pull-off-able' (sway bar, CAI, even the header if you don't mind the work) and sell them seperately. As planeguy mentioned, they're worth little or nothing to most used car buyers. I'd take the alarm.
What type of oil/water temp gauges did you use?

You can use the Edmunds website to determine True Market Value:

http://www.edmunds.com/used/2003/min...e.num2.1.mini*

I can't say how much your aftermarket mods will effect the value.

i agree that you should take the mods off that you can. a friend of mine put over 5k of mods on his 2002 cooper. it had 35k miles on it when he sold it last summer for about 2k under blue book.

Yep, head removed and now I can clearly see that you are an a**hole.

I just stated that any price under retail is a good asking price, a point that if you browse the ads of cars for-sale you would see that fact has been lost on some people with alot of modifications.

MINIs and Harleys

I've come to the conclusion that MINIs are like Harleys...

No matter how much you think the customization is worth, it is worth only as much as someone wants to pay.

I've had quite a few Harleys and only one did I get what I had in the bike. The problem is as soon as you bolt on the "goodie" you thought so much about it is basically worthless. I finally came to the realization that I can only value the vehicle and not what it is worth to ME.

Currently it seems the MINI market is like the Harley market was (dropping fast) and everyone thinks that paying sticker is ok for a new car. Also, the used market is completely off the charts...just had a guy try to sell me a '02 MC w/89k on the clock for $13,500, who makes up these prices?

Bottom line, it is what it is and it is worth what you are willing to take for it, that may be more or less than everyone thinks...but it is YOUR car, so if you want $40k (sarcasm) and someone pays it, that's what it was worth.

Sometimes it is better to come back to reality and sell for a realistic price, you're the one selling, so you're the one with the reason to sell...how bad do you want to sell it?

By the way, sold my 04 Harley Road King Custom for $3k less than I paid for it without the $2k in accessories...just didn't want it in the garage anymore...but then again, mine sold, and others are still out there trying to get $19-20k.

My .02

If you don't want to take off the stuff (labor is expensive) then, I'd suggest you try the forums for motorsport enthusiasts who can appreciate those mods.

Otherwise, I'd try approximately 25k, as you basically have ALL options. Your mileage will definitely hurt you, as people can just find S's on ebay (or autotrader) of the same year with less miles.

I gather taking the car's out of the question? The Atlanta MINI club would welcome you with open arms. As mentioned, your location has more to do with the price than anything. Check your area to see what the going prices are around you.

Also, I'll agree that you should revert back to original parts where ever you can. Even if you don't have the parts on hand it might be worth looking into acquiring them. For example, if you can pick up a used airbox for $30, it's worth it so you can sell your CAI for $120.
Good luck with the sale.

I think what most of you have said in one way or another is that too many mods scare buyers away. To this guy his car may be worth a helll of a lot more than i would be willing to pay. This happens so much that guys mod there cars out and expect to get every penny and more for it.. most of the time it just lowers the saleability of the car....but in defense he was just asking for our opinion but also got a bit nasty about it.. good luck...

yes i must say i did get nasty at planeguy but that was because i do not like when people assume that i would try and sell a my car at that high of a price.
i am not a greedy person and i really do not want to sell my car but i would rather sell it to someone that can enjoy my ride then having it sit for 3 years in a garage.
does anyone have a contact number for the MINI club in Atlanta?
my my location will be in north east atlanta if that matters

nice warm heated storage....it will be there when you get back

Mine sits in storage during these "wonderful" Ohio winters, bikes too, so I'm used just knowing I have it and not being able to drive/ride.

Good luck, if you can afford to, hang on to it, find a nice place to store it and do all the right long term storage things and it will be fine. I've got two classic motorcylcles in long term storage, just can't seem to part with my first bike and my dad's bike I restored

Part it out. That is the only way to get even a fraction of the money spent on mods back in your pocket. I am sure some locals wouldn't mind trading stock parts plus some cash for your mods...many are easily removed and are well worth selling....header, exhaust, head, intake, coilovers, wheels, etc...

some things like plugs and wires and the Shark, are not worth removing or CANNOT be sold if you remove them (shark)
