1991 Mini Mayfair for sale (Ohio)

Hiya ya'll... I'm putting Sprog III up for sale for $7500 for anyone interested.

Buyer pays shipping - I will accept cashier's check or money order. Here's the dirt:

The car has a 998 with a cracked block & head but good tranny, and a newer 1275 that runs like a top, but the transmission is jammed. If you can fix the tranny, all the engine work is done for you - you just need to set the timing, carb and points.

As far as I know it has never been in an accident... I've only had it from June, but there's no chassis damage that I can see. The only thing wrong with the frame is that the car fell off a jack when I was working on it, and it bent the front frame up a bit, but I've managed to get it bent back into pretty good shape. Would you like me to take more pictures of it? I'm going to be putting the wheels and bonnet back on tomorrow, so I can get you pics of all around the car as well as the two engines if you'd like.

The car is worth more now than when I bought it due to the maintenance, new stereo, a few new parts, and the much more desirable 1275 engine, that is why my asking price is so high. I still owe $7800 on it.

Do you have the know-how, or do you know anyone who knows how to fix the transmission? Remember that the engine runs, but is out of the car due to the bum tranny. Someone who knows what they're doing would know how to fix it, but it got damaged when it was shipped to me from California. All of the ancillary parts on the engine are from the 998, so most of the parts to it are from a 1991 car. The only thing electronic that doesn't work on the car right now is the horn, it was half dead when I got the car - its previous owners in Britain must have been honk-happy. The rear defrost also has a gap where it doesn't defrost. The seats look practically brand new and are pretty comfortable - they are high back (for a Mini). The car has a tachometer, which many of its era did not, and it comes in very handy. All the lights work fine. I went through it when I bought it and switched out all the bad fuses I could find. It also has new wheel center caps with "GB" on them for Great Britain. Shines up the car some. The car has 4 different keys(!), one for the door, ignition, boot and gas cap. I have 3 ignition keys total, and I believe 3 boot keys (the main set are in the car, so I don't have them here to compare to what I have here in my desk at home). It runs on 87 octane, and I have been promised that the new engine has had the heads reworked to run on unleaded gas. I'm throwing in a few bottles of lead additive just in case though. Gas mileage when it had the 998 in it was about 50 mpg combined, I estimate the 1275 to be about 35-40 combined, it has a 6 gallon tank.

As for rust, it has some - the worst being right under the driver's side (it's right hand drive) floor (they make replacement panels for this spot) and the front of the driver door. Most everything else is surface, and any body shop can fix the damage if you were to have the car repainted. For a Mini, especially one of its year, its rust is quite low. I personally wouldn't have bought it if I thought the rust was an issue.

The car has its merits and demerits, but overall I think my asking price is fair, if not a bit low. Let me know what you think. It's a lovely little car, and I hate to part with it, but I really can't afford the extra payment every month, or to get it fixed, as I don't have enough mechanical experience to deal with transmissions.

When you buy the car you'll also get an entire set of gaskets for the transmission and gearbox area. I put an AM/FM/CD player in it, with speakers that light up with blue LEDs (I also installed a kill switch in the wire to the speaker lights in the boot). All the electronics in the car work except for the horn. I changed out all the bad fuses with as many genuine lucas fuses as I could find laying around.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at SarcuxKSU@msn.com, or on my cell at 330.524.2800.

If you get to the point where you want to hire someone to fix the car and if you can't find someone up tour way let me know. I really think you will have to do that to get decent money out of the car.

If I can find someone near me who can fix it, then I'll most likely just keep it.

Sure thing. It'll be out back of my shop. 315 Gougler Avenue in Kent. Engines will be indoors though.

And thanks hotelcalif.
