This is the later version B&M Short Shifter Kit (SSK) no longer available, featuring fully enclosed extended housing which accommodates the longer B&M shift actuator lever. I removed this modded shifter box at 6850 total miles (less than 6000 total miles on this assembly) which was installed when my R53 was new.
The original (white) shifter bushing remains intact and unbroken as is the bump stop o-ring on bottom side of the shift housing. This SSK is ready for fitment to an R53/R52 with same later style shifter housing and cables for a truly turnkey kit for those wanting minimum installation hassles while keeping the unmodded OEM parts for later use or resale. An ideal package for those going tracking!

B&M's SSK achieved their advertised objectives for those looking for the most direct "feel" connected to the gearbox. I certainly liked that aspect, however exhaust level inside the cab with combo of 4-1 header and non-resonated exhaust exceeded my personal threshold - not so much around town but instead out on the highway. B&M's kit remains highly regarded for what it accomplished, however isn't aligned with my personal preferences. Compared with Cravenspeed's adjustable SSK (or a similar non-adjustable) which then requires less than optimal DIY extended shift actuator protection, B&M's design was a far more comprehensive and complete fabrication - as is advertised here. Further compelling reason to consider purchasing this as a complete turnkey assembly while retaining the OEM shifter box intact if desired.
Sitting on a B&M short shift that I've been too nervous to install for fear of not liking it and being unable to go back...after reading this I'm thinking might have to toss it up on the marketplace soon! glws
^^^ Easy solution: buy mine as a complete turnkey assembly, sell your uninstalled B&M kit as-is and retain your OEM shifter unaltered!
Honestly though, the real question is whether the extended shift actuator lever with an altered style bottom cover is an acceptable situation, as any brand SSK necessitates. Lots of 1st gen owners have done so over 15+ years with apparent satisfaction.
B&M's SSK appears was best fully-designed solution for 1st Gen series
This one is complete as shown with super low documented total mileage
Buy and install mine while keeping yours intact or selling to offset cost

Unsure whether this being still available 30 days later is due to comments in general on short shifter kits or instead is my price, however I'm reducing another $15 to $285 plus actual shipping cost. As stated, this B&M kit was considered the best aftermarket available when available and perhaps still now plus the entire assembly has extremely low usage mileage. Please PM questions...
Last time bump, noting this shifter assembly is now listed on eBay at $299 + shipping. A buyer there will pay sales tax plus with seller fee deducted from my proceeds, therefore this NAM offer remains the better deal for both. PM with any questions...
