Sadly, I don't know. Time to call a parts guy I guess.

the cover's do not come with the wheel. the cf ones are sold separately and i'd imagine you could buy the regular covers also if you have the part #s

I think they were talking about the airbag cover (center of the wheel), not the spoke covers.

OK I had "RDNZL" in for her 10,000 mile service yesterday at MINI of MO-town. I purchased the jcw wheel! Since I was there already I had Erving install it for me. He said it was no big deal except that the original wheels are marked both on the shaft and the wheel, but the JCW was not. So after all was done, I headed home, it wasn't until I got onto 287 that I noticed that the wheel was just slightly turned to the left with the car tracking straight ahead. I looked at the old wheel and see that all the teeth are the same, so the wheel can go on any way, not one way only as someone stated in this thread. It looks to me light it is one maybe two teeth off of being perfectly centered and me being the **** retentive person that I am will now have to make it right. I could bring it back, but Mo-Town is like an hour away and switching it is no big deal anyway. Anyone else notice this?

you can do it yourself if you're confident with toying...

1. disconnect the battery. (to ensure that the airbag does not deploy)

2. slide a flat head or torx into the x marked at the back of the wheel:

3. your goal is to release this spring (you'll need to do this to both sides):

4. at this point the airbag/horn will be loose at the top. pull it off. place it gently somewhere away from your face (safer to place it horn side up)

5. get your torque wrench and pull off the big ol' hub nut.

6. pull it off and realign. (i personally marked the location with a sharpie here for the original lineup so i knew where "wrong" was.)

7. screw the nut back on, pop the airbag/horn back into place, et voila!

Thanks, yea redoing it is no big deal, like I said I would have done it myself if the MINI wasn't already there for service, the only bummer now is I have to cut the little hole to realign. Just thought I might be missing something on the alignment teeth. Or anyone noticed that theirs was off centered alittle.

Well...the wheel from Morristown Mini was beautiful but...as much as I wanted to, switching from a two spoke to three would've costed me nearly a grand to complete the project so I returned it...

^ really ?
I was figuring it would be about that, with labor etc to go from the 2 to 3 spoke. My concern was CAN it be done? No one has really given me a stright answer, and or no one on here has actually gone from 2 to 3. Or at least never saw my post and didnt reply. Anyway, i may swing down to Mo-town Mini again next week and talk to them about doing this.

It can be done...it just that the combined cost for the parts alone (wheel/airbag/MF switches) would have been insane (nearly a $1000)...

Well i got a Mini 3-spoke airbag for reasonable, so now to head down to Mo-Town Mini to get the JCW wheel, new Multi function switches and whatever else i need, though i think thats it.

After reading the thread posts here, im thinking of installing it myself especially since the SA i spoke to today said he couldnt get me in until after July 4th!

My concern is the "slits" to make on the side of the wheel. I have the 2 spoke and going to the 3 spoke JCW. The pdf shows a 3-spoke. Are these "slits" on either side required? Im assuming this is a cut you need to make on either side of the wheel to get access to the release springs of the airbag

Also, is the Horn ring for the 3-spoke on the underside of the 3-spoke style airbag?

The procedure is different for a 2 spoke wheel. The Haynes manual says for a 2 spoke wheel, the airbag is attached by two Torx screws at the rear of the steering wheel.

Ok, thanks!

Now my only concern is the horn contacts. There are horn buttons on the 2 spokes of the 2-spoke wheel and as i understand it, the airbag itself activates the horn on the 3-spoke. Im wondering how i need to switch the horn from the spokes to the airbag on the 3-spoke to work

the horn connections are the same, I have both 2 and 3 spoke, the horn attaches to what I think I remember as a brown clip comming out of the steering column...and the connections were the same for the 2 different wheels, and there is enough wire on both, so no worries...mine worked fine.

Thanks for the info ! I guess now all i need to do is go to Mo-Town and get the JCW wheel and switches and i should be good to go.

ALSO, i already bought the airbag last week from another member but i still need to buy the wheel. Is yours for sale the JCW 3-spoke? If so, is it the full leather or the alcantara ?

not JCW, just standard 3 spoke, I wanted to switch, but then could not make the change because I like the way the functions work on the 2 spoke, front and back....so I stayed with the 2 spoke and did a custom leather wrap on it, including the spokes.

So, months (or years) later... how's your Alcantra holding up? Anyone got any pictures of their wheel after some serious usage? I'm still deciding between Alcantra and Full Leather.

Thanks!
