DME question

I’m not sure if this is how I post on here. First time on a forum. I have a 2009 Mini Cooper S convertible. I’ve smoked 2 #3 coil packs so far. It all started when I changed the leaking valve cover and forgot to hook the ground back up for the coil packs. I pretty sure I fried the DME. If I get a used one does it have to be for the exact model and year of mine? Will it need reprogrammed? If so is it something a normal mechanic can do? Thank you for your time

This is the F56 forums for JCWs, etc. As to the issue, not that mechanically minded. Sorry.
