Melted Coil Pack and Damaged ECU?

So my wife's 2012 R56 CS auto had a melted coil pack on cylinder 1 last week. I replaced all for 4 coils and plugs (~ 52K miles) and car is still misfiring on #1. Pulled the plug and coil out to see if #1 was sparking and nothing. The other 3 were fine. Looks like the ignition wires for the coils are connected directed to the ECU harness. Any chance the melt coil might have damaged the ignition unit in the ECU? Remember seeing a short thread on a similar problem with an earlier model year Cooper. Thoughts?

Did the car overheat? I would check that harness first around the front of the engine near the valve cover. Might be an animal or mouse chewing on the wires. Did it to my R52.

Yes the DME is likely bad. I've seen this before, good thing is the DME is covered under the emission warranty so I would take it to the dealer and make them do it. Emission warranty is 8yr 80k mile.

The last one I had do this melted so bad we also had to replace the valve cover as it wouldn't come out. Be careful as the new coil you put in is likely already starting to melt. Also don't take it in unless you have original MINI coils in it. Otherwise if you have aftermarket coils that you just installed they may try to blame that and not warranty your DME. This is why we ONLY use factory coils.

Thanks WMW! I will give the dealer a call tomorrow and see if I can arrange for it to be repaired. @ ECS.. The first thing I checked was to be sure the wires were not frayed or damaged. BTW, are OEM coils made by Delphi?
