Jcw muffler replacement? Magnaflow, vibrant, flowmaster

bought the car. Too loud for me. Jcw exhaust which has been hacked up by po. Both muffler are deleted and the resonators was removed. Currently has an aftermarket resonator with no mufflers. Would like to add one muffler to quiet it down. Anything someone has used before?

The "resonator" as you call it is actually a muffler in many worlds. Cars, bikes (MOST aftermarket systems). I believe that there is/was actually a Mini system with three straight through (or resonators as you call them) available.
Just go look into the various muffler manufacturers advertising in the net, pick what you like, buy and have it/them installed.
Be sure to check the body sizes, so that it/they will fit into the space available.

Any reason to not replace it with a new complete JCW exhaust?

I removed the factory JCW system because I couldn't get anyone to replace a straight piece of tube where the crushed section is. It's almost crushed in half for some clearance for the convertible as I've heard.

I put the Milltek on my 05 JCW. It's a "little" louder (sounds good, not at all objectionable) than the JCW system, but bigger than that, it fixed a small flat spot in the medium hard acceleration around 3300/3500 rpm. It also leaned the fuel mapping a bunch. Simple to instal.
Well worth the money, effort.
I bought the Miltech header also, but I don't want to instal it until I can get the ECM remapped.

Drone is an annoying oscilation of sound at steady rpm. There is no drone with MILLTEK...Just the sound of a sporty exhaust system.

I know exactly what drone is. This isn’t my first rodeo. From my personal experience most aftermarket exhausts on almost all platforms cause some amount of drone. What varies is the amount. It can be adjusted with resonators on some systems and not on others. I had an Alta and now a fJCW with a small resonator. I had a ton of drone on the Alta and less in my current setup, but it’s still there.

I was asking if there was drone on the Milltek from peoples’ personal experience, not a Drone 101 lesson.

Thanks

I had the ALTA 2.5" Sport Tone on my JCW and it had no drone ?
Drone is an annoying oscilation of sound sometimes in varying pitch while at steady speed on highway ....

I had the 3” down pipe back on my JCW R56. Drove it home after I bought it from MD to CT and I had to take it off that same week. It was fine around town but anywhere from 55-80 it droned badly.

Well then, you made a wrong turn posting in this THREAD!
You are posting about a 2nd Gen part in 2nd Gen MINI the 1st GEN JCW section. DUH!

Thanks for pointing that out in such a delightful way. I appreciate your helpfulness.

One of the weaknesses of this forum has always been the search function throwing you in any subforum searching for something like “drone” and doubling down without a very good labeling system. That’s why I’m here with all you kind understanding folk.

This forum has gone downhill since I owned my R53...people used to be friendly and helpful without being condescending and rude. Good luck everyone.

Well sorry you feel that way.....

Status quo these days......No one apologizes when wrong with finger pointing every direction and no accountability while having too thin a skin.

The Op (Rick) was looking for genuine help with benefit of our experience for what could easily be a $1,000.00 mistake in modding his car.....

We field many question like this every day. It's better content for everyone when people are in the moment and have the common courtesy to read the post/section and model application before commenting what they purport to be fact. Anything less is garbage in and garbage out which depreciates the informational content and credibiltiy of this forum....My 2 cents.

Yea...no drone, no humming, no anything. Barely audible on the freeway/highway.

Talk about "condescending and rude"! Here, you intrude on an R53 thread when you no longer own an R53 and lecture us on "civility".

Roberta -

I have an 06, low mile, JCW. The factory system tubing has its problems. It's "flattened" just before it splits into the two sections. I've seen that it was supposedly for a different version of the car !?
I bought a "Miltech" system with the catalytic converter. It's just a touch louder than the factory JCW, but there's a positive difference in power. Not any huge gain, but a noticeable gain.
Plus, my car had a sort of a bad "flat spot" in the power, when on the gas medium to hard, around the 3200/3400 rpm range. After installing the Miltech, the flat spot in the power is gone.

And, it's a pretty easy installation. And like the factory, it's stainless steel, tubing and mufflers.

Good luck

Mike
