JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 2nd Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs are discussed.
After new valve cover, water pump, coolant pipe, thermostat housing, vacuum tank, and vacuum lines I started getting code 2885. Checked as much as I could. Threw in the towel and took it to a shop. They said bad turbo. I decide to do some more checking. Removed the O2 sensor (easy) and discovered this. Waste gate completely gone. Worth just replacing the waste gate? $60 for parts or replace everything?
If you can get a new wastegate for $60 I’d do it. It’s better than the cost of a whole new turbo.....unless you are looking to upgrade. Another option is just replacing the exhaust housing side (hot side) of the turbo, it will have a new wastegate. JMTC (JMTurboCoopers) has them. When mine went I upgraded the turbo, but you will probably want a tune if you do.
Agree with MrGrumpy When I got 2885, it was my wastegate as well. I decided to replace the turbo with a larger JMTC turbo after considering the JMTC exhaust housing.
