craven speed or H&R

pulling trigger on new springs. Need an opinion I am looking at lowering 2016 JCW with DDC 1.2 inches with either HR or Cravin Speed. Cravin has progressive in the back but not in front and HR is progressive all the way around I think. I know most people do HR but is there an advantage to Progressive in rear and not in front?

I've installed all the different brands of springs and I would recommend the Cravens as I liked the ride the best with them and customers have been happy with them.

I liked all the discussion in your "justa versus JCW handling" thread. Are you starting with just springs alone? As I recall, you wanted to keep the DDC. I think that's a good idea as my thinking is the handling issue is a "weight transfer" issue and not a shock dampening issue anyway. I know the rebound and dampening settings do have an effect, but the bulk of the problem is the weight transfer and that's better addressed through the spring rates than the shocks (in my guess-timation). Good luck and it should be fun to experiment on the car.

I just ordered the AC Schnitzer spring set for mine. Some of the numbers I found look like they lower the car the least amount (which I want), but I'm actually skeptical about that. They had different lowering numbers for the JCW versus the regular F56 which I didn't see from the other brands, so that's why I'm doubting it. I figured I'd just see when they got here. There's hardly any reviews on the Schnitzer's either, so the brands you mention, and WayMotorWorks mentions sound solid. Also, the Schnitzer is a one month ship time. They estimate July 31 for me. Ugh.

Anyway, I just wanted to hear if it was just the springs for now.

Yes just springs for now. Like you said want to keep the DDC. I am going with the Craven speed. going to order today. Now need to find a shop to put them in. I would do myself but the DDC part has me a little intimidated. May do the sway bar also since it is already on the rack.

The rears are easy, The springs are separate from the shocks. For the fronts, you must not spin the shaft.

that is what I have heard, but I know there is a special tool but I don't know if that will work on the DDC version.

so OK with the front, but back still seems to have a large wheel gap. I am going to measure and see if it actually dropped.

Drive around a bit to let it settle. Also. when you tightened the rear suspension. did you do it with the suspension loaded to normal height or while it was fully extended?

I had a shop do it, but the tightened everything while on the rack so I would assume extended.

@madmix I'm betting the DDC will affect how long it takes to settle. Should be a 1.25" drop on both front and rear.
Can't see that picture though!

altecfenix, do you have your 2017 dropped with springs? I was hoping to have more a drop like on the craven website. I do have DDC, I have driven 90 or so miles, so how long to settle. The back only dropped about 1/2 inch front dropped correctly. It is clearly not this. Now my springs had plastic wrap on the bottom part, that is not in the picture. I am assuming that wrap stays on?

I do have have them installed on mine! No DDC in mine, but the JCW shocks. That plastic does stay on, yes. There's really not anything that can go wrong with the springs as far as manufacturing. Our shop F56 is sitting on 16"s as well, here is mine on the 17"s:

OK I am the same 25.5 in back and 24.75 in the front. So can anyone out there tell me what the Stock JCW measurements are? So I watched a video installing the same springs started at 26 inches in front and little over 26 in back, just what I started with. So as you can see that the car did not drop 1.2 inches in the back, so now what? I am not going to pay someone more money to take off springs that did not compress as advertised. They could drop a little more, but I doubt they will drop another 3/4 inch or even half inch in the rear.

so same numbers in this video

so it is possible that Craven Speed springs do not drop 1.2 inches all around. Now in might settle another 1/2 to 3/4 inch but I doubt it. Anyone else with Craven Speeds springs please way in. Not trying to be an *** but just want to make sure we all have correct info.

I am still trying to get a response from Craven Speed about these springs. Multiple examples of the springs not reaching the 1.2 drop as advertised. So far it would seem this number was gathered from a single car install, but I could be mistaken.
