JCW JCW Exhaust
JCW Exhaust
2018 F56 JCW on order.
Looking at the threads that talk about the JCW Exhaust Tune Kit (the one that has the remote button) it appears that most that I read are people with an MCS that upgrade to the tune kit.
So what comes from the factory on a JCW? I know the Factory JCW pipe has bigger diameter than the factory MCS exhaust, but is that it?
I am considering the Remus as an upgrade, but is it worth putting the JCW Exhaust Tune Kit (the one that has the remote button) on a JCW or are those really meant for an MCS upgrade?
How bad/good is the sound of the factory JCW exhaust?

Here is a sounds clip I made with my JCW exhaust - https://myredmini.com/sound-clip/
The exhaust is a 2.75 diameter, pretty much the same as the aftermarket ones. I have an S and the JCW tune came with it. Im 99% sure the exhaust on the S is a 2.5 dia so it makes sense to upgrade to a bigger diameter exhaust.
If I had a JCW Id just stay with the JCW exhaust. You are essentially buying a name if you get an aftermarket setup because more than likely they are going to be the same 2.75 dia you already have.
They all offer the 9hp "increase" so it's almost a wash if you already have the JCW
..... my opinion of course!

I had the JCW PRO exhaust installed on my JCW and it gave me a 9 HP boost, coupled with an NM module my dynomometer results were 269 HP 285 FT LBS of torque. It turned my JCW into a proper performance beastie! $ well spent, and coupled with an air filter change the sound is magnificent. I am going to have it on the dyno at the MOTD with 100 octane and the module set on high to see how much additional power it will generate.
We've installed them both and I would for sure go with the Remus. It is lighter, fits great, and has more levels for sound with the flap adjustment.

How about the tune that comes with the JCW Pro...? The ECU gets reprogrammed at the dealership, and that's actually where the power increase comes from. I don't know that an exhaust by itself will make power on this car, from Remus or anyone. Unless in conjunction with another tune of some kind.
If you're planning to do a tune via Evolve, Bytetronic, etc., then no need for the JCW Pro tune, I believe. Guess the aftermarket tune would actually write right over that. So yeah the Remus would be a fine choice. That's cool about the 4 levels, didn't realize that.
If you're planning on a piggyback boost tuner, like NM or Burger, then you still get the advantage of the JCW Pro tune. So JCW Pro seems smart in that case.

If you want to get a piggyback, get the JCW kit and tune because the piggyback will add more power to the JCW tune.
That is what I originally had (option 2) but then got the full flash. I didnt have a choice, the car came with it and it was 2yrs before BT. If I had to do it again, Id go option one.
Good thread, I received my 16 JCW in November of 2015, and was not aware of the PRO exhaust and added it later with the NM module and, therefore, no issues with warranty. The warranty is good through this October and I will not change before then and possibly not change the current setup at all. I have 30,000 miles on the mini and have had no issues with the power train or engine to-date. It seems to be a good match and the car is a joy to drive. I am seriously contemplating the next GP and if it is produced with 280 HP as some of the rumor magazines have indicated I will most likely get one. I also plan to keep this one as I truly love this little beast and the mini back seat has come in handy as well!
Thanks for all the feed back here are the options I am thinking about:
JCW Pro Exhaust with a Dinan Elite. If I understand it correctly the JCW Pro exhaust will give 9 hp increase because dealer will upgrade program. This is not just for MCS but will increase on a JCW as well. Please correct me if I am wrong. The Dinan does not have anything to do with the pro exhaust but will give an additional 30-40 hp and can be installed by the dealer.
Or
A Remus exhaust but will get no increase in HP but if I add a Dinan elite or an NM Eng Power Module I get a great sound and the 30+ HP of the modules. Don't get the extra 9 hp for the pro exhaust.
Do I have it correct?
Oh and the JCW is built waiting for transport and so all I have is to sit here and think about what mods to do.......lol.
Again thanks for the help.

Correct - The Dinan has nothing to do with the exhaust. a JCW tune is the exhaust and dealer programmed ECU update
Im pretty sure the Remus will give you a hp boost, at least its marketed that way, but without a JCW dealer ECU update you, in theory wont get as much HP as you will in option 1
Your option 1 - JCW ECU update, JCW pro exhaust and dinan
Your option 2 - Remus and Dinan - You will be missing the extra HP from the dealer ECU update

Both option would have similar HP gain, most of it coming from the Dinan piggyback and a small bump from either exhaust.
I don't know about the Dinan Tune, but the PRO Exhaust added an 8 horsepower boost to my 2016 factory JCW and the NM module another 31 HP. The total dynoed HP is now 269 and the torque is 285 with the exhaust open. 261 HP and 277 FT LBS of torque with it closed. Money well spent in my opinion. I plan to have a dynomometer run this year at the MOTD with 100 octane fuel to see how much if any additional power that generates.
That's the flipping point of my decision. On a JCW does the JCW Pro Exhaust get the 8-9 hp when the dealer adds it to the ECU or is JCW at the max for what the dealer can do?
If I cannot get that increase with the JCW Pro Exhaust then I will go with the Remus.

Don't get an exh looking for power. the power comes from the tuning. That is why I go Remus as it will be more cost effective, good sound, and lighter weight. Then add a tuning module of your choice and budget as they will all give you more power the the JCW flash.
Honestly, it’s a wash. They are both offering the same thing. It just depends if you want to spend money on an aftermarket system or not.

The O.E.M. stock horsepower on my JCW was 231 HP. The NM module added 30 horsepower, the JCW PRO exhaust added another 8 HP. Total horsepower with the exhaust valve open is 269 horsepower. The module has low and high settings. The high setting to be effective requires at least 100 octane fuel. I have not dynoed the mini with 100 octane fuel and the high setting. I plan to have that done at the MOTD this year.

I'm leaning towards the Remus for my JCW, mainly for the lower cost and the 4 sound levels. The JCW carbon tips do look awesome though.
Ideally I'd be able to get the Remus without tips and just put on my stock JCW tips and get the JCW carbon ones down the road
Dealer confirmed no change in HP on JCW with install of JCW Pro Exhaust i.e. no ECU change to get the increase you would get on the S. I am definitely learning from everyone's posts. If I understand it correctly you can get a little HP increase just by putting on an exhaust because of a less restrictive air flow?
Looks like it will be a Remus. Even though JCW tips look good I'll go for the Remus carbon fiber tips.
Now I have to read up on and decide about the tuning module.

Now I have to read up on and decide about the tuning module. Your dealer is wrong. Here is a link to a thread in the 2015 worldwide mini forum that has my dynomometer results in PDF. I was unable to upload a PDF to this forum for some reason. One run with the exhaust closed and one with it open. There is an 8 HP increase with it opened. Here is the hyperlink.

Right, I think what he is saying is that there isnt an extra ECU tune with the exhaust like there is with the S.
The JCW is already maxed out with the stock JCW tune and the pro exhaust

Just put on the Dinan elite
Dinan Elite is fun - says it gives it +45 HP and +55 lb-ft torque. Acceleration is a bit better - but first is so short hard to really tell. Pull out of corners and 15-90 acceleration is noticeably stronger / bigger grin. I moved from a 135i M Sport to this with N54 @304HP at wheels, so the 280 HP at the wheels on lighter car actually seems a bit stronger. Car was fun - now "funner".
