JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 1st Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
Hi I’m sorta new to this but I have a 2004 Mini Cooper base, and curious if that can have the tuning kits, cylinder head all that.
There was a R50 JCW tuning kit, which was followed by an R50 JCW "sound kit". The R50 JCW tuning kit is probably the rarest JCW part (technically kit of parts) I'm aware of. I've always been intrigued by them as I originally preferred the look of the R50 to the R53. Since I started paying attention (2006ish) I've seen 2 R50 JCW tuning kit equipped cars come up for sale in the US and seen about 5 of the tuning kits come up for sale. So yes they exist, but they may not be an option for your car.
Like mentioned, your best bet is looking at aftermarket mods rather than JCW.
Yep I have the JCW Sound kit. There was a JCW Tuning Kit for the Cooper Gen 1 also. So very rare, I have not seen many sound kits. I have only seen a handful of R50/R52 Cooper Tuning kits. They were super expensive back in the day and numbered with a sheet, they did carry the warranty so people did get them. It was some of the last items that the Cooper Garage in the UK (Micheal Coopers dad) was still doing before they closed down and sold the rights to BMW group/MINI.
Both are nla, except you can still get just the head, exhaust or intake. The tuning kit was the sound kit + the head, different ecu tune, and side scuttle JCW badge.
Someone had a new Cooper JCW tuning kit (full kit) for sale here on NAM a couple of years ago. Rare as hens teeth. Once the Cooper S was launched in 2003, it made the price of the Cooper tuning kit unnecessary.
As stated, the "Sound kit" was the result and that was just the intake/exhaust and maybe a valve cover if I recall correctly.
Looks like this R50 got an engine swap that included part of the R50 tuning kit. Based on the ad, I would say you could pick this up for less than the cost of a JCW head. If it was not an engine swap car, I’d have to really think about it.
