JCW Outmotoring Door Handle Covers
Outmotoring Door Handle Covers
They're away until Monday but I was wondering if anyone is
familiar with their product - F56/7 -Black Door Handle Covers ?
My 2018 JCW Convertible has the 'Ambient' light feature they
mention as one of their options but only on the driver's side and
it is of two-piece outer construction. The passenger side is what
they list as 'Standard', having no special features of any kind and
is one-piece outer construction.

I believe the Out Motoring 'Ambient' product model is presented
as being one-piece with no features on the right passenger side
and two-piece with the ability to emit downward light through a
small 'portal like cut-out' on the left driver's side. That is how the
OEM handles came in my (F57) 2018 JCW Convertible.
Note: Whereas I was correct in stating that the right side - passenger
side is of one piece construction and not 'two', which is the case on the
driver's side, I was wrong to state the passenger side didn't have the
'light emitting' feature, for it does.

Out Motoring outer door handles were a proper fit. All parts
have substantial amounts of double sided tape so once you
peel off the red plastic tape protector, simple 'hand applied'
pressure is all that is needed.
Also received the Black Tape from them and installed it myself
on the rings of chrome covering at the base of all the glass sections
surrounding the car. Had plenty of tape left over so, if need be, I
can replace any sections around the car that may need it one day.
No heat was required but you have to take your time so that no
wrinkles appear. This can be a 'tad' difficult around the curved
portions but take your time and re-lift the part of the section your
presently working on to work out any wrinkles. Make sure to wipe
the chrome down with alcohol before you work on a section and if,
at the end, you notice any small air pockets, pinch them with a sharp
pin and you can then press them out. No instructions come with the
tape. Instead of having to work with the whole roll, measure out the
sections, one by one, and cut the length of tape while leaving about
3/4 of an inch extra at each end. I made sure to have a sharp razor
blade so that the overlap of tape at each end of a section can be easily
trimmed. When I did the large section covering the center most part
of the windshield, it was easier for me to do it in two sections, each one
starting in the center most area of the hood. Mating up the two sections
in the center of the hood couldn't even be seen to have a seam after the
mating process. The key to application is positioning the top of the tape
with the uppermost part of the chrome trim, making sure to keep going
in a straight line........no more than a couple of inches forward at a time.
Took me a good part of the afternoon but perhaps a non-novice can do it
faster. Still, it could require your paying a few hours of labor unless the
applicator is a real 'whiz'. Looks good and for less than $13 the price was
acceptable as far as I'm concerned.
A super close inspection of the tape on the car resulted in my noticing a
thin line, along the base, that didn't fully cover the shiny chrome. Thought
I'd try a 5/8" tape, instead of the 1/2", and found the results more to my
liking. It's only 1/8" in added height but it did the trick.
