Im on the hunt for a jcw mini. Came across one at a Honda dealer. Salesman told me about the car....jcw convenience package? Was this a dealer installed option? I ran the vin for factory options. This car also has the jcw rims and brakes. Dealer had no clue if engine was jcw kit.... Little lost. What options did dealer install for jcw kits?

 

There was no such thing as a JCW Convenience Package.

The JCW Engine Tuning Kit was for Cooper S Models.

I use bmwvin.com to get VIN information. Based on your vin it is a factory JCW, not the dealer installed tuning kit. There's no JCW specific convenience package, the standard Convenience package includes:

I thought the factory jcw package was listed on the vin decode. Thought it was coded as 3al... I'm a newbie, maybe I'm wrong.

It is listed in the vin decoder but not in the options list. On bmwvin.com look at the first section Vehicle Information:

The E series tells you it is the factory JCW. As a test I entered the vin of my old 08 MCS TT91390, and the E series/type code are slightly different. The E series is R56 () and type code is MF73 so I know yours is the factory JCW.

Option code 3AL was for the 1st gen mini JCW package, that actually was an option but in the 2nd gen mini's they changed it up and the JCW has its own type code. To make it more confusing you can still get a JCW tuning kit if you have a MINI Cooper S which gives you a slightly different kit of intake/exhaust/tune for around 192 hp vs standard 172 in MCS. But usually that is installed well after the car has been sold.
